Bathhouse in the garden: features and independent construction of the optimal design from “A” to “Z”

Turnkey mini sauna
A huge hello to all readers!

Walking through summer cottages in the evening, you involuntarily notice that a bathhouse is becoming an integral part of almost every garden house. Having a bathhouse in your dacha is already the norm, and not the privilege of a select few.

I can’t help but remember my childhood from the eighties, when having a bathhouse at your dacha was extremely prohibited. Many at that time “disguised” it as a small flock or outbuilding. Today times are different, but a mini bath remains the choice of many summer residents and ordinary residents of the private sector. Let's try to figure out why this is so...

Garden bath project

The whole truth about building a garden bath

The most simple project of a bathhouse made of timber, measuring 4x4 m, consisting of a steam room, a sink and a relaxation room. The speed of construction of such a baby is no more than a week, if you apply maximum effort without special energy costs.

The configuration of the building is quite simple, rectangular in shape. The category of buildings with dimensions of 3.0x4.0 and 4.0x4.0 meters are in great demand among those who have a seasonal trip to the country and do not use the building during the cold winter period. The price range of construction costs is small, and mainly depends on the material used for interior decoration. Some projects may be equipped with a bathroom, but it is usually installed in premises for year-round use.

Foundation

As a rule, garden baths are installed on a strip foundation, but since the structure is quite light, it is possible to use a pile or block foundation with a drilling depth of soil under the piles of no more than 2 meters. This type of foundation is most often used on quicksand or unstable soils.

Construction

Log houses are built from profiled timber with the crowns fastened using nails or wooden dowels. Externally, this styling, at least, looks very beautiful.

Panel building projects are often ordered, or seasonal bathhouses are built from SIP panels. Such buildings are very easy to assemble on site, and are considered the most economical in cost, both in terms of work and materials used.

Internal organization

According to the project, functional rooms are separated using frame partitions lined with clapboard from the inside. The inside of the partitions is lined with an insulation cushion, including steam and waterproofing and insulating material. Modern insulation IZOVER is very often used for garden baths. In addition to its insulating qualities, it is characterized by excellent soundproofing qualities.

Equipment

The stove is installed between the steam room and the rest room, from where firewood is supplied. To equip the oven, as a rule, a 65-liter stainless steel tank is used, which can be hung on the partition of the washing compartment. The stove is also equipped with a built-in heater that is isolated from the chimney, which makes it possible to carry out procedures even when the stove is heated.

Insulation

The floor and ceiling are made double and have an inner layer of insulation. The thickness of the insulating layer ranges from 50 to 150 mm and depends entirely on the choice of the customer. The insulation pad is made in full compliance with the norms and rules for the construction of structures of this category. The insulating layer on both sides is covered with a layer of membrane-type vapor and waterproofing. The inside of the steam compartment is lined with a layer of thermal insulation made of aluminum foil. The garden sauna is designed for year-round use.

Window openings are filled with wooden frames with double glazing, standard doors are hung in accordance with the customer's choice.

Interior decoration

Depending on the customer’s wishes, the interior decoration can be made of any type of wood. The standard package includes finishing the paired room with linden lining.

Moving

Garden baths are very easy to install. In addition, they are quite mobile and can be transported to the installation site in the back of a small GAZelle car, or using a miniature manipulator. During transportation, 10 participants are sufficient, since the weight of the building when fully equipped is no more than 500 kg.

Typical projects

All projects include thermal baths of miniature sizes, with full equipment of functional systems. Some projects provide a relatively spacious recreation room.

Svetlana

For two months after birth, my child was incessantly sick, hardly slept and did not give everyone peace. He cried, was capricious, had snot, a temperature of 38. Even the doctors didn’t know what to do and already wanted to give the baby an antibiotic. After the birth of my child, my kidneys failed, I started hemodialysis, and you can imagine what we had to go through during these two months. Immediately after the purchase, I sat in the Mini Sauna for 45 minutes, my skin was all red, but there was almost no sweating. On the second day, after 50 minutes of extreme use, the sweat began to flow in streams, the kidneys unloaded and, to my surprise, started working! Then I took the baby on my lap and warmed him up in the Mina Sauna for 15 minutes. The child fell asleep soundly for the first time in 2 months, and I even woke him up to feed him. The next day I also warmed it up for 15 minutes. That's all. My child has fully recovered! It turns out he just had a cold. The doctors were surprised; not every parent would risk heating such a baby at a temperature of 38 degrees. Additionally, they also cured my husband’s nerves. For 2 months he became very nervous because of us. After 20 minutes of taking the sauna, he became all flushed, relaxed, calmed down, and for the first time in recent memory began to smile. Thanks a lot. Your Mini Sauna practically saved our family.

I used to be a fan of various creams and constantly experimented with new formulations to improve the elasticity and firmness of the skin. But your consultants explained to me that I should not clog my skin pores with various creams, but rather open them. After purchasing a mini sauna, I started taking it twice a week for 20 minutes. After just 2 months, the pores opened, the skin became smooth, firm, elastic and acquired a healthy appearance. I no longer need to spend a lot of money and rub unknown chemicals into myself. On the contrary, I realized that it is necessary to remove toxins and waste products of the natural breakdown of the body through the open pores of the skin, as well as the results of diligent many years of chemical rubbing! In addition to the general cleansing of the body and receiving all the benefits from the mini sauna, my skin again became healthy, elastic, smooth and silky. Thanks for the science.

My weight is 140 kg and I cannot sit on the small chair in the mini sauna. But the fabric thermal cover is very comfortable. I climb into it and sit on the sofa, or I can even take thermal treatments while lying on the sofa and watch TV. Due to blood pressure, bath procedures are contraindicated for me. But there are no overloads in your mini sauna, you can breathe easily, and smooth and quick temperature control is a miracle; there is nothing like it anywhere else. You can quickly select the right temperature for both a child and an athlete. Thanks to whoever came up with this.

Vladimir (photo report of the buyer)

At the All-Russian Exhibition Center (VDNKh) exhibition I saw a mini bathhouse - a home sauna and wanted to take thermal procedures. I chose the package with two cases, bought it and quickly went home.

He got into the bag and turned on the fan heater. I feel pleasantly warm. I adjusted the direction of the flow and its temperature inside so that it was not hot. After about 10 minutes I felt relaxed and sweated in streams - nice. Another 10 minutes - I wanted to warm my head. I put on the cap and it was warm and pleasant. It is easy to breathe because fresh hot air is blown into it. The wife says: “Make a mask and steam your face.” Well, I guess that's not my thing.

After 30 minutes I went to the shower, washed off the sweat, rested for 10 minutes and climbed back into the mini sauna. I had a good rest and am very pleased with the purchase.

Why mini sauna?

Still, the main reason for choosing a mini bath is the lack of funds. Having built a house or cottage for yourself, you always want to have all the benefits of civilization on your site. And a bathhouse is one of the aspects that you always want to have. But what if all the funds are spent or simple (emotional and physical) fatigue dictates its conditions? There is only one way out - to build or purchase a ready-made functional mini-bath.

If you choose the first option, then building a mini sauna with your own hands will not take much time and physical effort. On the contrary, a small functional building can be delivered “turnkey” within a season. Money and labor costs will be spent to a minimum.

Many people, due to lack of time, are considering another budget option. They purchase a completely finished compact bathhouse. This choice is good for everyone: low costs - quick results. Fortunately, our entrepreneurs adapt well to customer demand. And you can purchase such “streaming projects” as the mini bathhouse “Emelya” or “Bochka” in almost any region of our country.

Selection of foundation and wall material

Due to its light weight, the best option for a foundation would be a columnar one. You can lay out concrete blocks or pour small cabinets. In any case, it is much faster and cheaper than a strip foundation. A layer of waterproofing must be laid on top. Roofing felt or bitumen mastic is quite suitable.

Mobile mini sauna

For the mobile version of the bathhouse, the chassis of a car trailer acts as the foundation. This is a rather interesting and practical option for lovers of hot steam while hiking near a cold river, far from home.

The fastest and cheapest way to build a miniature bathhouse is to assemble a wooden frame, cover it with plywood or boards, and insulate the walls with polystyrene foam (preferably penoplex) or mineral insulation. It is imperative to make a vapor barrier on the inside. The best option is to shoot foil roll insulation on all walls, gluing the joints with special tape. This foil copes well with heat and vapor barrier, and also creates an excellent thermos effect.

Don't forget about the ceiling. It is necessary to insulate it by first making a vapor barrier (you can also use foil). After vapor barrier and insulation of the ceiling and walls, thin bars are mounted on them and lining is sewn on. But during interior decoration you should not forget about...

Correct application

It is recommended to apply heat-resistant paint with a regular brush, roller or spray gun . Of course, if you choose the spray can option, then there is no need for tools.

The only note: before coating, the surface must be cleaned of dirt and degreased.

Before covering the surface with paint from a can, you need to stir it well and wait until small air bubbles come out.

In most cases, before painting, it is advisable to cover the surface with a primer , and the paint should be applied in several layers, waiting for each one to dry.

DIY artistic painting

If desired, the stove can be decorated with a design. Folk motifs will add individuality to your home. Artistic painting is easy to do. Coloring composition:

  • Dilute multi-colored gouache with water.
  • Add 1-2 raw egg yolks to the mixture.
  • Stir well until smooth.
  • Use as directed within 12 hours.

The design can be applied with a painting brush or with a sponge. The use of stencils is permitted. Painting depends on personal imagination. For beginners, it is better to use simple patterns.

In addition to the egg coloring mixture, the remaining whitewash is used - gouache is added to the solution. High temperature oil paint can be used.

It is best to carry out all furnace work before the onset of autumn. Cast iron parts (oven, doors) are best treated with fire-retardant or silicon-organic enamels. This will protect them from corrosion.
