The Russian bathhouse has three main goals - to heal the body, relax the soul, and plunge into an atmosphere of friendly communication. Not every building will be able to meet the necessary criteria, but it’s worth talking about a comfortable and practical bathhouse interior. Of course, the room should be comfortable, functional and at the same time stylish.

What material is suitable for a steam room?

There are a lot of finishing materials for interior work. To make it easier for you to choose what kind of finishing will be done for the steam room in the bathhouse, each designer has photos and pictures of ready-made solutions. It is worth remembering that even if you made your own choice, it is better to coordinate it with a specialist, because not all materials are suitable for installation inside the hottest room.

Taking into account the specific operating conditions, the following requirements are imposed on the finishing:

  • moisture resistance;
  • heat resistance;
  • durability;
  • hygiene;
  • environmental friendliness.

Important! For the interior decoration of the bathhouse, you should choose natural materials.

When the temperature rises, plastic becomes deformed and begins to emit an unpleasant odor, and ordinary tiles crack after heating. Therefore, the use of such finishing is unacceptable in the steam room.

The best option is wood. The finishing structure depends on financial capabilities. For example, lining is cheaper than timber; it is chosen if it is necessary to meet a certain budget. Basically, bathhouse owners prefer deciduous wood. Below is an example of what the interior decoration of a bathhouse might look like, a photo of the classic version.

There is an opinion that you should not sheathe the inside with steamed coniferous wood, since it releases resin when the temperature rises. But this statement is controversial, because resin has a beneficial effect on health, cleanses the respiratory tract, and strengthens the heart.

Whether or not to sheathe the interior with coniferous wood is up to you - maybe someone in your household doesn’t like the smell of pine needles or vice versa...

If lining was chosen for cladding the bathhouse, then it must be of high quality. Particular attention must be paid to the external processing of the material - there should be no chips, knots, or cracks on its surface. The lining should not deform: swell when heated or dry out at normal temperatures.

If wood is not suitable for you as a material for interior decoration of a steam room for some reason, you can give preference to heat-resistant tiles; they have proven themselves well under significant temperature changes.

Experts recommend laying the walls of the steam room with terracotta flagstone - this material is resistant to high temperatures and humidity.

Design materials

After the structure and insulation of the complex is ready, it is time for other types of finishing. Finishing work requires certain rules that have significant features when compared with finishing work in other buildings.

Design in Finnish

Impeccable interior content not only provides external convenience, but also has an impact on the health of visitors. Stylistics and practicality must be combined, and this depends on the materials used, which must meet the following characteristics:

  • durability;
  • fortress;
  • environmental cleanliness;
  • accumulation and retention of heat;
  • low thermal conductivity;
  • resistance to temperature changes;
  • compatible with high humidity.

Ecological cleanliness

The traditional material that fully meets the listed requirements for arrangement is, of course, wood. In addition, the aesthetics of wood are pleasant in texture, have a subtle, healthy aroma, and look organic and natural.

The interior, where natural materials predominate, is beautiful in itself. It emanates a pleasant warmth and serenity, which creates an atmosphere of peace. Pairs can be made using one or more species and types of wood materials.

Several types of wood can be used in the steam room

Of course, the interior of a modern bathhouse is often combined with other materials. Broken logs, lining or brickwork coexist perfectly with stone, brick or tile masonry. The combination of different textures distributes each of the bath rooms in a special way.

Combination of different textures

However, you should know that paint and varnish materials are not used for interior finishing work. When heated, such coatings become a source of toxic substances because they are not able to withstand significant temperature changes.

Ceiling protection

Before finishing, you should protect the ceiling from hot steam. To do this, use aluminum foil or a construction membrane.

Important ! Do not use foil with mineral wool or polypropylene foam glued on it. When heated, these materials release toxic substances.

Features of microclimate and wall material

When choosing interior cladding for walls, ceilings and floors in a bathhouse, several issues need to be resolved. To begin with, is cladding actually necessary? In a wooden bathhouse built from logs, the walls can be left “as is.” If timber or some other material is chosen as the construction material (aerated concrete, brick, frame construction technology), then you can choose lining - it will create the necessary atmosphere of a wooden bathhouse, form a healthy microclimate, and fill it with the aroma of fresh wood.

The lining can be mounted not only vertically, but also in other directions - horizontally or in a herringbone pattern.

The sheathing material is selected taking into account the wall material. A stone, brick, foam or aerated concrete bathhouse necessarily requires internal lining. This will ensure high-quality insulation, prevent heat loss and give the necessary “bath” flavor to the interior. Lining is suitable for these purposes - it has different profiles and can be mounted not only vertically, but also horizontally, in the form of masonry, or in a herringbone pattern. You can use a block house or imitation log. The cladding made of wooden boards looks original. To make the right choice, you need to familiarize yourself with the requirements for interior decoration in a bathhouse.

Using lining - rational or not

Definitely yes! Lining made from linden, aspen, cedar, and abashi has become popular due to its properties. It tolerates temperature changes well, high humidity, is aesthetically pleasing, and does not absorb moisture. Cladding made of clapboard has low thermal conductivity - it does not heat up, but transfers heat to the air.

Bath lining is not covered with varnish, antiseptic, or paint; it is used in its natural form.

Interior arrangement of the steam room

As a rule, benches, shelves, and headrests are installed in the steam room. They are fairly easy to make, so you can do it yourself. It is recommended to make bath furniture from the same type of wood that was used to cover the walls of the steam room.

Nowadays African oak, or abashi in other words, has become widespread.

It has such advantages as:

  • low thermal conductivity;
  • moisture resistance;
  • high density;
  • durability;
  • strength;
  • does not deform;
  • pleasant to the touch.

The disadvantage of abashi is its rather high price.

Preparing the walls for finishing

When starting to finish the walls, they solve the issue of insulation and waterproofing. Without such measures, the bathhouse will not last long, and healing procedures will be reduced to simple hygienic ones. For insulation, the walls are covered with mineral or basalt wool. The second one is more resistant to high temperatures, so it lasts longer.

Insulation of walls in a steam room with mineral wool Source hvylya.net

Experts consider cork to be the best thermal insulator for bathhouse walls. This agglomerate does not burn, does not rot, and is resistant to fungi and mold.

Finishing around the stove

The space around the stove needs special finishing for the reason that the proximity of the hot stove to the flammable material of the walls (the same lining) can lead to a fire.

Fireproof board for finishing walls when installing a sauna stove

Therefore, a heat-insulating material, for example, mineralite or superizol (mounting on ceramic bushings is desirable). A stainless steel sheet can be attached to reflect heat.

Tiles near the stove

If the walls are not made of wood, you can protect them with heat-resistant tiles. Since tiles are used for lining stoves and fireplaces, you can find many varieties on sale, from which the seller will select the right one for you.

Of course, stove tiles are more than suitable for wall decoration, but they can be more expensive, so it’s worth measuring the heating temperature of an object located at the same distance that will separate your stove from the wall.

ATTENTION! Glazed tiles are not useful here either, because glass cannot withstand high temperatures. If you take tiles, then only matte ones.

And one more thing - you need to take into account the fact that in bathhouses on a personal plot in winter, if not used for a long time, the temperature can be below zero.

Some types of tiles are not intended for sudden changes in temperature when heating a bath - this issue should also be clarified with the seller. If you choose the wrong tile, it will crumble.

Lathing - to do or not to do

Craftsmen prefer to install the sheathing and attach the interior trim to it. The popular base size is 50x50, less often they make 70x70. The pitch is not standard and varies depending on the size of the blocks being strengthened.

The sheathing is made of wood, less often of metal. Considering the operating conditions, the metal must be treated with moisture-resistant compounds. The lining or logs are secured with self-tapping screws and nails. They must be copper or brass. The installation of the base is done perpendicular to the sheathing.

Horizontal installation

The lining, installed in a horizontal direction, is evenly heated, is equally covered with moisture and is less damaged by its influence. If necessary, boards that have become unusable can simply be replaced. However, horizontal installation of the lining requires the installation of a forced ventilation system, since such an arrangement of boards negatively affects natural ventilation.

When installing horizontally, you can start fixing the lining from both the top and the bottom. Installation from the floor is easier, but the finished wall will not have a very neat appearance due to the need to trim the topmost board. Therefore, it is better to start finishing the steam room from the ceiling. In this case, the first rail will need to be installed under the ceiling and positioned with the groove down .

Stages of clapboard finishing

  • A beam is fixed along the perimeter of the wall and ceiling . Fastenings should be every 80–100 cm.
  • Cut pieces of insulating wool are placed between the wood without compacting.
  • The top is covered with a waterproofing agent . The joints are sealed with aluminum tape, paying special attention to the corners.
  • Provide ventilation . To do this, fill the distance rail. It will provide a small gap (2–3 cm) through which air will be vented.
  • They make separate upholstery for doors and windows.
  • They fasten the lining . You need to start from the corner, fixing each part vertically. This position will ensure free flow of water. If a horizontal arrangement of blocks is planned, make sure that the spikes are at the top. This will protect the lock from moisture.
  • The lining located in the corners or near the walls is cut to the required size . It is especially important to cut the corner block correctly. It is necessary to accurately calculate the angle of inclination so that the adjacent block is correctly fixed.

Next, install insulation from the furnace. For this use:

  • metal - stainless steel or profiled iron is mounted on the wall behind the stove;
  • red brick - placed between the wall and the fire;
  • tiles resistant to high temperatures (kaolin);
  • mineralite is a heat-resistant board made of cement and special components.

Steam room design

If we are talking about finishing options for finishing a steam room in a bathhouse , then it would be worthwhile to somehow classify them and talk about them from different points of view. That is, we can talk separately about floors, walls, ceilings, doors and windows, or we can talk about materials. This is what we will try to cover below.

Floor

In a paired room, the floor comes in three versions:

  • tree;
  • tile;
  • concrete.

The latter option is not intended at all for walking on it with bare feet, but people also walk on this floor in rubber slippers or on ladders. We mention it here only for the sake of completeness. Although, if you paint it with something waterproof ... In general, be that as it may, there are three working options for installing floors in the steam room. A wooden floor can be wet or dry; you can read about the features of both options here.

We will not touch on how to make this or that floor, we are only interested in what it is and what it looks like in the end.

A poured wood floor consists of boards secured to joists without joints. The gap between adjacent boards is up to 1 cm.

Dry floor , on the contrary, consists of very tightly joined boards, most often tongue and groove.

Both floors, after completion of installation work, can be painted either with acrylic varnish or with impregnation for sauna floors . This will make the floorboards water-repellent and the floor itself more durable.

Tiles are also fully present in the steam room, because no one wants to change the floors every 5-7 years, as is the case with the pour-over option, and a dry floor can also deteriorate - it is, after all, wood, and it is not particularly friendly with water ( except for species such as larch).
IMPORTANT! The main argument against tile floors is that they are a slip hazard.
But there are enough tiles on sale that have a rough surface that prevents slipping. Concrete... If the screed is made of high-quality concrete, then water will not harm it for a very long time. But it will also look as if the finishing of the steam room in the bathhouse was left halfway. To give it some finality, we would advise painting it with paint for concrete pools - everything will somehow be prettier.

How to decorate the walls and ceiling

It’s not for nothing that we have combined walls and ceilings into one category - they are usually made of the same material.

If regarding the floors there was still some variability in the choice of material for finishing them in the steam room, then for the walls and ceiling in a standard bath there was only one material - wood. And it is right. Firstly, tradition, secondly, useful, thirdly, pleasant and beautiful.

But in general, the design of a steam room in a bathhouse, if we talk about the walls and ceiling, comes down to the choice of lining. True, some leave the walls made of timber or logs unsealed, but this is only if the timber or logs are thick enough or the winters are moderately frosty, which is why it is not cold in the steam room.

But there are quite a lot of types of lining so that those who do not want the standard option have plenty to choose from.

ATTENTION! To begin with, let us clarify that imitation timber and blockhouse (imitation log house) are also types of lining. After all, this word essentially means just a profiled board, and it can have many different profiles.

euro and non-euro

First of all, the design of the tongue-and-groove connection varies. Based on the differences between them, such types of linings as standard (according to Soviet GOST), eurolining, and “American” are built.

Secondly, they may differ in the profile of the front side of the bar . The presence and absence of chamfers, the degree of rounding, various protrusions and depressions create all the variety of surfaces finished with these boards.

It is also worth taking into account the presence or absence of ventilation grooves on the back of the lamella . They were not included in the Soviet standard, but they are needed, and the eurolining has them.

ADVICE! For those who want to creatively approach the interior decoration of a steam room in a bathhouse, we can recommend combining several different profiles, for example, smooth with or without a chamfer and some of the carved profiles.

You can read more fully about the types of lining and cladding methods in this article.

Of course, there is also finishing around the stove in the steam room of the bathhouse, and it is made, in particular, from tiles - ceramic or natural stone. But we will talk about this in a separate chapter below.

Doors and windows

For doors and windows, the most important thing concerns not so much the design as the correct choice of wood.

After all, you can’t put a plastic door in a steam room, except perhaps a glass one, which is made for a sauna, of course (that is, with a healthy gap under the door, necessary for ventilation of the sauna). But if you file the frame, you can install a glass door in a Russian bathhouse. And you won't have problems closing the doors.

But if the door is made of wood, then increased humidity will affect it primarily by changing the volume of wood , that is, it will change the dimensions of the doors. And they will periodically not fit into the opening.

To avoid such problems, you need to choose a tree that is least deformed by moisture. And it is very affordable - it is an ordinary linden tree. By the way, it is worth making not only doors, but also shelves from it, and some people will prefer linden lining. The properties of wood will be discussed below.

BY THE WAY! There are different doors, we advise you to take a panel door made of solid linden, but framed and paneled doors will be out of place in a steam room.

As for the windows, if there are any, they are small. wooden frames for them if you can successfully combine a double-glazed window with several chambers and a frame made of the desired wood. Usually they take what the manufacturer has.

IMPORTANT! We will not recommend plastic for the steam room - PVC, after all, does not like temperature changes, it warps from them, and its composition is variable, that is, it can release anything that is in it. Yes, and it burns well, if without special additives.

As for the coating for doors and windows... The only safe compositions are acrylic varnish and impregnation for walls . (By the way, it was not mentioned above, but these are the coatings that can be used for walls and ceilings.)

Making the floor in the steam room

Not only comfort, but also safety depends on the choice of raw materials for the floor. Moisture on smooth tiles or linoleum leads to falls and injuries. Installation of such materials will turn the floor into a skating rink. In addition, when heated, linoleum emits an unpleasant odor containing substances harmful to health.

The optimal choice of floor for a steam room is wood. It does not require a special coating, and with this design the room will be designed in the same style. It is worth noting that the wooden floor in the bathhouse is not made of oak. This wood becomes stronger when wet, but at the same time its surface begins to slip.

Concrete works well. A floor made of such material will be strong and durable. Tiles are laid on top of it, but the structure of the surface of such a coating is important. It should not be glossy; a pronounced relief is necessary. The floor is laid at a slight slope towards the water drainage.

Laying tiles on the floor in a bath Source seattlehelpers.org

The tiles are laid from the corner, placing crosses between the blocks, tapping with a mounting hammer. After 2-3 days, the seams between the tiles are rubbed down. Wooden grates are placed on top to prevent you from stepping on the cold floor and provide additional safety in case of possible slipping.

Recommendations for finishing the steam room

When covering a steam room, the lining can be mounted vertically or horizontally (for more details: “How to mount lining in a bathhouse - rules and installation sequence”). If a horizontal arrangement is chosen, then the lining should be nailed from the bottom up. This technique will prevent water from seeping into the joints.

First you need to install vertical posts, between which the insulation material will be laid. To do this, markings are made, which should start from the corner. The distance between the inner sides of the racks should be 59 cm. This step will allow you to correctly install the insulation of the required thickness.

There are some peculiarities when cladding the walls of a log bathhouse. Fastening the sheathing boards in a vertical position is quite difficult, and not everyone decides to do this work themselves. To obtain the desired result and avoid mistakes, it is necessary to process the side of the vertically located racks facing the logs.

And now the shelves

A very important point is the shelves in the bathhouse. Since constant tactile contact is assumed with them, increased requirements are put forward for these elements:

  • they should not get very hot ;
  • it is better if they cool slowly ;
  • must be environmentally friendly ;
  • do not slip or be very rough;
  • have no external damage ;
  • easy to wash.

Again, wood is most suitable for this purpose. Carefully cleaned, without knots or nicks, it has served people in bathhouses and steam rooms for centuries. Shelves should not have sharp corners that could cause injury. They are not made solid, leaving a small distance between the wooden boards.

Vertical installation

Vertical placement visually makes the ceiling higher and looks attractive. Vertical installation begins with fastening the first board in the left corner of the bathhouse using a special bracket. In this case, the ridge should be turned towards the corner, and the next installed board should cover the already nailed one with the ridge.

The main disadvantage of this installation is the possibility of deformation of the board due to the temperature difference in the upper and lower parts of the room.

Setting up a dressing room

The main function of the dressing room is to preserve heat. The temperature in the room is not high, so it is good to use coniferous trees to decorate walls in a traditional style.

The interior decoration of the bathhouse made of logs creates an atmosphere of antiquity and ancient fairy tales. A light aroma created by pine, fir, and spruce is appropriate here. The wood of these species resists fungus and mold well. It does not crack after drying and is durable. When heated, fir releases almost no resin.

If hardwood is preferred, experts advise finishing the room with birch. The lining can be laid out not only in even rows, but also in a pattern. It is important that the walls in the room are covered with the same type of wood.

What is a bathhouse

Let me give you a short excursion into history. The Russian bathhouse was originally a free-standing low building with only one room. Inside everything was poor and austere. In the dressing room there are only benches and hooks for clothes, bands, and brooms. The building was used only as a steam room, and then you could take a dip and cool down in a river, an ice hole or a snowdrift. How do you like this prospect?

Interior of a Russian bathhouse

Modern baths are a structure consisting of several rooms, each with its own functionality. There are various layouts, some offering large-scale construction, sometimes even in the perspective of two floors.

Building with several rooms

But more often, more familiar, medium-sized one-story buildings with three rooms are built:

1Steam room.

2 Shower room (sometimes also a laundry room).

3 Dressing room or, as it is also called, rest room.

Recreation room or dressing room

Inside each of the rooms you can create your own, exclusive style, although it is important to maintain a harmonious combination in the interior of the entire bath.

Bathroom and washroom

These rooms do not have very high temperatures, although the humidity is as high as in a steam room. The choice of finishes in the bathroom and washroom is more extensive. Fans of bath procedures recommend using natural raw materials for such rooms - wood or stone. Among wood, pine is the leader - it is an affordable material, however, it darkens with prolonged use.

An example of a washing station design Source profstroiplotnik.ru

Plastic is acceptable since there is no high temperature, and it tolerates humid air well. You can use regular tiles for the shower.

Characteristics of wood species for a bath

For the interior decoration of the bathhouse, you can use coniferous and deciduous wood. A significant difference between the species is the amount of phytoncides released, which can kill some microorganisms and slow down their growth. Coniferous species contain much more of these substances.

However, choosing wood for a bathhouse based only on the usefulness of the material is wrong.

Other criteria should be taken into account:

  • density;
  • durability;
  • percentage of resin content;
  • affordability.

Bath traditions go deep into the past, so our ancestors accumulated enough knowledge about the properties of different types of wood. After studying them, you can choose the most suitable material for finishing the bath.

Larch

This is a beautiful resinous tree with a reddish tint.
The mechanical properties of this species are identical to oak. In addition, larch contains an impressive amount of highly active substances useful to humans.

The main advantages of larch:

  • Durability. Even in conditions of high humidity and high temperature, wood is resistant to rot and fungus.
  • Over time, wood does not change its color.
  • With excellent mechanical properties, it is cheaper than oak.
  • The disadvantages include the complexity of wood processing and low thermal insulation properties.

Linden

This is one of the most popular and affordable materials. When heated, linden releases substances that are beneficial to health. In interior decoration, this wood shows its best side.

Even at the highest temperatures, the walls and ceiling will be pleasant to the touch.

Advantages of linden for interior decoration:

  • The wood is light and soft. Thanks to these qualities, finishing is time-consuming and easy.
  • Linden has low thermal conductivity. Buildings made from this type of wood warm up quickly and require less fuel. In addition, the steam room does not cool down for a long time.
  • Well-dried lining does not shrink, and the bathhouse can be heated immediately after finishing is completed.

Linden also has significant disadvantages:

  • Low fiber density and resistance to rotting. As a result, insects quickly appear in the material and fungus spreads. For this reason, linden-lined baths must be thoroughly dried after use.
  • High price. Linden is more expensive than pine and spruce, but at the same time cheaper than oak, larch and especially cedar. However, given the advantages of this material, the price is quite justified.

Oak

The most durable and moisture-resistant material. But it is used less often in bath decoration due to its high price.

If you want to have a rich environment, oak is the best choice. In order to save money, lining or boards made of this wood are used as additional finishing in order to emphasize some details.

For example, the shelves are lined with linden lining, and the headrest and back are made of oak.

Birch

Wood that has long been valued by bathhouse fans. It is beautiful, fragrant, healing and durable. Birch is soft, tough, and elastic.

It demonstrates anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, antifungal, strengthening, wound-healing, antiviral and antiseptic properties. But birch is afraid of moisture, so it is ideal for finishing the ceiling, walls and floors of recreation rooms.

Aspen

Deciduous species, widely distributed in Europe and Asia.

It has a recognizable light shade and a smooth, pleasant texture.

Choosing aspen for finishing is a good idea due to its advantages:

  • does not overheat;
  • due to the specific structure of the fibers, it will not cause splinters;
  • does not release resin;
  • has an acceptable cost.
  • The disadvantages include susceptibility to rotting in high humidity and darkening over time.

Cedar

Decorating the bathhouse with cedar looks very beautiful and noble. This wood is easy to process, is highly resistant to temperature changes and moisture, and is not afraid of insects and fungi.

Cedar is rich in healing essential oils, thanks to which a unique aroma will reign in the room.

However, the persistence of the aroma is considered not only among the advantages, but also among the disadvantages of cedar.

  • Some owners of cedar steam rooms note with annoyance that the pleasure lasted a little more than six months and soon the smell began to irritate. And the material was very expensive.

Ash

Boards and lining made from this species look very presentable. The color of the wood is dark, the structure is dense. Ash is especially recommended for making shelves. Dense, non-porous wood does not allow dirt to penetrate inside. Ash has a high heat capacity.

At the same time, the surface does not overheat and does not burn the skin. Lying on the wide and warm ash loungers is very comfortable. A solid ash shelf is the best solution for a steam room with a temperature/humidity mode of 60/60.

  • The disadvantages of ash include its relatively high cost. It is also worth considering the material’s susceptibility to temperature changes: such lining in a steam room will require careful and regular maintenance.

Abash

The exotic tree is an analogue of the oak familiar to Russians. It has no less impressive properties than its domestic counterpart. This is one of the best materials for finishing a bath.

Abashi wood is lightweight and amazingly durable. The material has no knots and does not emit resin.

The advantages of this type of wood:

  • the amazing ability to adapt to the temperature of the human body;
  • low thermal conductivity: wood does not overheat even at extreme temperatures;
  • does not deform or shrink even with changes in humidity;
  • resistant to rotting.
  • This material has only one drawback. Since it is exported from African countries, its cost is much higher than the usual local materials. Therefore, such a finish is not affordable for everyone.

Bath master who knows everything about steaming

It is not recommended to use maple and beech for construction or interior decoration of bathhouses. They have a loose structure and even at low humidity begin to rot.

Video description

For interesting ideas for interior decoration of a bathhouse, watch the video:
Decorating a relaxation room in a bathhouse, in addition to traditional wood, can be done:

  • glass wallpaper;
  • porcelain stoneware;
  • natural stone;
  • decorative plaster.

Important! The tree is not installed immediately after delivery to the construction site. It is brought into the room and allowed to stand for a couple of days so that it “gets comfortable” in the bathhouse. After this procedure, the wood is not subject to deformation when heated and high humidity.

Features of wood cladding

I wonder how to line the inside of a bathhouse cheaply. Wood comes first, but it has a number of features:

- many types;

- inexpensive fasteners are suitable;

- Possibility of using glue.

Finishing the inside of a bathhouse using wood assumes that the master is familiar with the material. It is important to know about expansion, mechanical properties. Practice shows that lining the inside of a bathhouse can take longer if the percentage for defects is not calculated.

Many people are interested in how to line a bathhouse from the inside in order to spend a minimum of time on work. In terms of ease of processing, coniferous species are valued.

Steam room materials

The internal appearance of the bathhouse largely depends on the steam room. It is worth evaluating all the options, but the following are in greatest demand:

- Finnish spruce;

- pine;

- beech.

The steam room must be prepared and a film is laid in front of the main layers. Alder, aspen and beech are suitable as the main insulation. You can additionally consider cedar, but it is now rising in price.

Even professionals are interested in how to line a bathhouse in order to save as much as possible. In this regard, linden comes first.

If we look at pine in more detail, it has the following features:

- strength;

— durability;

- heat retention.

In terms of moisture, the indicators are at the level of oak. Impregnated material will last about 10 years. Over time, pine does not lose color. As for the smell, it changes.

Characteristics:

— bending up to 80 MPa;

— density 450 kg per cubic meter.

Pine has average compression performance. The fibers hold up well during sudden temperature changes. If you take a board, the tensile strength is 90 MPa.

Builders are familiar with the need to handle clapboard carefully. If workpieces of small thickness are used, there is a high probability of chipping. For example, you need to divide the lining, and for this it makes sense to take a file with fine teeth.

Washing material

If you are curious about how to line the inside of a bathhouse, the following is considered for the washing room:

- fake diamond;

- pine panels;

- hemlock.

If the steam room is easy to cover with thin sheets of aspen, then you can approach the washing room in an original way. PVC panels and even ceramics are valued. It’s interesting how to line the inside of a bathhouse in addition to the above methods. Here, planken acts as an alternative.

Material for the rest room

I'm always curious about how to line the inside of a bathhouse cheaply and beautifully. For the rest room, the following methods come first:

- brick;

— lining;

- siding.

The inside of the bathhouse is decorated in the same style. For example, lining and brick practically do not go together. If you take siding, PVC panels will do. When considering a bathhouse, the finishing must be calculated in advance.

Lining does not require a large percentage of inventory. Some are interested in how to line the inside of a bathhouse so as not to attract help. It is easier to choose a brick from the above methods.

Next, we take into account what the craftsman uses to line the inside of the bathhouse. First on the list is lining of different types.

The process of covering walls with clapboard step-by-step instructions

If previously the question of how to line the inside of the dressing room inexpensively was of interest, now it’s worth considering the process itself.

Instructions:

- Preparation;

- the basis;

- covering the inside of the bathhouse with the first layer;

- isolation.

Wall cladding in a bathhouse begins with preparation, since the surface must be cleaned.

How to arrange a bathhouse with a terrace

The shape of the extension can be:

  • round;
  • oval;
  • square or rectangular;
  • triangular.

You can do it simultaneously with the bath or later.

Choosing an unusual terrace shape will make it a decoration of your summer cottage.

By design, the veranda comes in two types:

  1. Open. Shed with porch and roof. Used only in warm weather.
  2. Closed. A full-fledged house with communications, a wood stove or a gas or electric boiler. All parts of the building are covered with insulation. Suitable for year-round use.

If the foundation structure allows, then a closed terrace is made on the second floor - an attic or a glazed loggia. The material of the extension may differ from the bathhouse. The use of brick, stone, blocks, wood is allowed.

It is better to build a terrace at the same time as a bathhouse. This reduces the risk of errors when joining two different substrates.

If you build a terrace later than a bathhouse, then it is better to choose a frame structure.

It is customary to decorate an open veranda like a gazebo: instead of walls there are railings made of carved balusters. The top can be sheathed with wooden sheathing. In conditions of limited funds, any available materials are suitable for finishing.

Benches, chairs and a large table are installed on the summer terrace. A chandelier is fixed in the center of the ceiling, and lamps on the walls. All interior elements must be moisture resistant.

What not to insulate and sheath a steam room

We think it would be useful to list the materials that are not suitable for the steam room.

All flammable and melting synthetic materials are not suitable for it, especially in the oven area. You should not use polystyrene foam or Penoplex as insulation. Also undesirable are foil materials with polyethylene foam - “Penofol” and the like. Somewhere there was a video of what such materials turn into when exposed to heat for a long time.

Forget about insulation like glass - it does much more harm than good.

ecowool to insulate steam rooms, because it itself is a non-flammable material, but prolonged exposure to high temperatures leads to smoldering even of borax-treated cellulose.

BY THE WAY! Wood in a steam room also becomes more prone to smoldering and fire over time. This is invisible to the eye, but high temperature changes the properties of wood (over several years), and you either need to change the skin regularly or never lose your vigilance.

The external decoration of the walls and ceiling should also not be made of plastic - for the same reasons. But this is understandable. Paint and varnish coatings for walls and ceilings are also undesirable for a steam room. The exceptions are impregnation compositions made from oil, wax or oil wax or acrylic varnishes designed specifically for saunas.

For paints, you can use heat-resistant silicone enamel to paint the stove, and for the floor, use wood compounds that make it waterproof. See Painting section.

PVC profiles in the steam room are also undesirable, because windows and doors made from such profiles can be damaged by temperature. It is better to use combined profiles - the inside is wood, and the outside is plastic or aluminum. Or purely wooden ones.

Design of a bathhouse with a swimming pool

In large private estates, the owners not only equip a bathhouse, but also add a swimming pool to it, so that vacationers can plunge into the cool water after spending time in the steam room.

The pool can be installed outside the bathhouse, right on the street. The cheapest way is to make it out of plastic or put a large barrel of water.

The most expensive is a monolithic tank. The structure is dug into the ground 1–2 meters. Suitable only for southern regions, where it is warm most of the year.

An indoor pool is laid out indoors. Often a separate room is allocated for this. On the walls near the pool you can often see designer mosaics made from pieces of tiles and stones. The indoor pool is suitable for year-round use. There is a possibility of heating. It’s an expensive pleasure, so it’s only done in luxury bath complexes.

Regardless of the type of pool (indoor or outdoor), installation is carried out next to the steam room. So that when leaving the steam room, vacationers can immediately take a plunge. To do this, a separate door is installed from the steam room to the pool.
