Features of using a kilt for a bath
A bath kilt is a fabric product that is hygienic in nature. This accessory often replaces a sheet and allows you to hide your private parts in public steam rooms. Thanks to the presence of fasteners and elastic, the kilt can be easily transformed into a towel. This is very convenient, since traditional towels are poorly attached to the waist and hips and constantly slide down, which hinders movement and causes a lot of inconvenience.
This skirt comes from the classic Scottish robe. The highlanders were very fond of spacious skirts, as they did not hinder movement and did not allow them to freeze during the off-season. For celebrations, the mountaineers wore classic red-and-black checkered skirts. Now the Scottish skirt is part of the folk costume of the Highlanders.
In the warm season, the Scots wore a kilt made of thin fabrics. To sew it, you definitely needed a pattern, since the skirt contained folds. In some cases, the main part of the clothing was attached to the yoke.
In the cold season, the Scots wore a long kilt made of a wide piece of linen. They could even hide. As you can see, it is very convenient; it is both a piece of clothing and a bedspread. They made a warm kilt from woolen fabric. Sometimes printed sheepskin was used.
But a modern kilt for saunas and baths bears little resemblance to national Scottish clothing, since it does not have folds or darts. Its main purpose is to absorb moisture and allow air to pass through well.
Advantages of a kilt for a bath:
- Easily transforms into a towel or sheet;
Excellent moisture absorption;
Does not slip off the body;
- Does not hinder movements.
The bath kilt is available for men and women. There are few differences between these products. Male - shorter, but wider. Women's accessories are sewn taking into account the distance from the chest to the knee. Women's loincloths for baths are often called pareos. This skirt is fastened with a wraparound design, that is, with one piece of fabric overlapping another. To hold the kilt on the body, braid, Velcro or fasteners are used. There are also differences in decor. Men's skirts are complemented with laconic decor, most often embroidery. Bows or ribbons are attached to women's ones.
Styles
Bath dresses made of terry can be decorated with embroidery and are most often made in one color; some styles are sewn with pockets. There are models with lace and bows or with ruffles at the top. Some bath towel dresses are sold complete with a turban, mitten or bath slippers. The choice of colors is very wide: pink, blue, red, green, yellow, olive and others, you can always choose according to your taste.
Pareos made of waffle fabric most often come not only in one color, but also with patterns, for example, on a bath theme or imitating a tartan check.
Some of the styles resemble the traditional pareo, whose homeland is the island of Tahiti. Other models look like dresses on the figure, since they are made with straps at the ends of the panel; the strap on the right side goes over the left shoulder and vice versa. In this case, the back remains practically open, and the bath dress becomes very similar to an elegant evening dress.
Pareos can also be seen as part of gift bath sets.
Bath dresses also vary in length: above the knee, to the knee and to the middle of the shin. For a dry bath (sauna) it is recommended to choose a longer pareo, and for a wet bath, on the contrary, a shorter one.
Materials for making a kilt for a bath
The cost of a bathhouse kilt is quite high, so try sewing it yourself. This bath accessory is made from natural fabric. Most often, cotton, linen or terry cloth are chosen. It is necessary that the skin in such a robe breathes, and the fabric absorbs sweat well.
Of course, good quality terry cloth is not cheap, so a kilt made from waffle cotton fabric is considered a budget option. It is much thinner, but also perfectly absorbs moisture. The most interesting thing is that the waffle fabric quickly gets wet through, so it is better to avoid such material if you like to visit the steam room several times in a row, alternating it with the pool and jacuzzi.
Choose white or beige fabric. It gets dirty quickly, but some canvases are painted with synthetic, unstable dyes. After a long stay in the steam room, they can leave colored marks on the body. It is prohibited to purchase colored fabric for children. The dye may cause allergies.
Pareo for different occasions
Some people go to the bathhouse with enviable regularity to maintain health, for others this is a rare occurrence. If you often visit the sauna, a practical mid-calf-length model made of ivory terry cloth is suitable.
It is desirable that the pareo has a great smell, and also comes complete with a turban and slippers.
For those who occasionally go to the bathhouse with friends, you can choose a stylish option, because it is clear that even in the company of close friends you want to stand out and be brighter and more interesting, even if there are no men nearby.
If you are going with a large group of couples, then the women's pareo for the bath and the kilt of your friend or spouse should be combined in shades and texture.
At least it will look very impressive.
How to build a kilt pattern for a bath
In fact, the product is very simple, so there is no need to create a pattern. The Scots did not always make their skirts using a pattern. It was an ordinary piece of fabric, folded according to a special pattern. The folds were fastened with a belt. If you are not confident in your abilities and do not often sew clothes, then it is better to draw a pattern on paper and then transfer it to fabric.
Pattern for a men's kilt for the bath
To create a kilt pattern for a bath, take a sheet of paper, preferably tracing paper. If you don’t have it in the house, regular newspapers or unnecessary wallpaper will do. You need to draw a rectangle measuring 120 by 50 cm on a piece of paper. This is the entire pattern, you don’t need to do anything else.
To sew a kilt for a men's bathhouse, you need to purchase a fabric measuring 120 by 50 cm. A men's kilt is shorter, as it does not involve wearing the product on the chest. For men, this is a kind of loincloth. If a man is short, a length of 40 cm is sufficient. For representatives of the stronger half of humanity who work out in the gym, chest volume is taken as the basis for the measurement. If it is more than 100 cm, then purchase two lengths of fabric for sewing the accessory.
Pattern for a women's kilt for the bath
For women, this bath accessory is a little more complicated. To create a pattern, you need to draw a rectangle measuring 120 by 80 cm. Round the two bottom edges of the paper. To do this, use a compass. The compass needle must be installed in the center of the constructed square, the side of which is equal to the radius of the circle. Cut out the edges.
If you want to add pockets to the product, then you need to create a pattern for it. This is a rectangle or square of the size you need. Typically the pocket size is 20 by 15 cm. One pocket is enough; you can put jewelry and jewelry in it.
Making a kilt for a bath with your own hands
The technique of taking measurements and sewing a kilt is different for children and adults. There are also differences when working with different materials.
Sewing a standard kilt for a bath
Initially, you need to decide on the size and purpose of the accessory. In order to make a kilt for a woman, you will need one and a half times more fabric than for a man. The approximate size of a piece of fabric for sewing a women's pareo is 120 by 80 cm. That is, you need to purchase 80 cm of fabric, since the standard width is 120-140 cm. If you want to add pockets to the product, purchase a little more fabric.
Instructions for sewing a kilt:
- Select material in the store. Remember, it is more difficult to work with terry cloth, since during processing the fabric can stretch and fray. If you don't have a serger, purchase a different fabric.
An ordinary underwear elastic band is used as a holder. Its length should be 40 cm less than the width of the canvas. This will prevent the product from slipping while wearing.
Finish all edges without exception with an overlocker. If you see that the terry is stretching, reinforce the waist line with non-woven fabric or doubler material. Waffle fabric is cheaper, but it is not as pleasant to the body and does not stretch at all. Place the material on the waistband line and iron. The interlining should stick to the fabric.
Process the joint between non-woven fabric and terry using an overlocker. Non-woven fabric will make the belt stiffer.
Fold the belt line 3-4 cm twice. This way you will make a kind of tunnel for the elastic band. Pull the elastic in and secure the edges.
Fold the edges along the sides and bottom of the product. Sew adhesive tape on one side near the waistband. Sew the other half of the Velcro on the other side. The Velcro should go above the chest for women and at the waist for men.
Use buttons or pieces of tape as fasteners. You can just take the laces. Don't forget about pockets.
How to sew a kilt for a large bath
The sizes of this bath accessory presented above are suitable for slender women and men. A piece of fabric measuring 120 by 80 cm is designed for sewing a kilt for women who wear clothing sizes 46-48. To sew a pareo larger than size 50, you will have to look for fabric with a width of 150 cm. This will save your money. Otherwise, you will have to purchase two lengths of canvas.

Let's look at how to sew a cape, pareo, skirt or kilt for baths and saunas. Text and video options await you.
Where, who and why wears a kilt or cape
This useful thing for bath and sauna lovers is called by different names, but the model is difficult to confuse with something else. It will come in handy if you or your loved ones prefer bathing procedures or going to the pool.
The accessory is used in the steam room instead of an uncomfortable sheet.
It takes up little space in your bag, in the bathhouse it hides body parts from prying eyes, protects against bacteria, and if you don’t have a towel on hand, it can easily be replaced.
What types of bath capes are there?
The bandage around the body is usually a simple rectangular shape, wrapped with a large overlap of the fabric over each other, and fastened with Velcro tape (Velcro), buttons or ties. There are women's and men's options.
Differences in length, shape, decorative elements.
The men's kilt is shorter, wider, as a rule, without additional decoration.
Women's, often called a pareo or skirt, are sewn based on the distance from the chest to the knees, add pockets, a rounded bottom, various decorative decorations: appliqués, bows, buttons, etc.
Note: You can sew a pareo of the desired size, add a broom, aroma oils, body scrub and give it to a friend or colleague. If you are sure that you will like the gift, take note.
What materials are suitable for a bath cover?
Fabrics made from natural materials - cotton and linen - are suitable for a bath cover.
An excellent solution would be to purchase waffle or terry cloth.
First, it quickly absorbs water, is lightweight and inexpensive.
Second, it will last longer under the influence of water and steam, but is a little more expensive.
Choose according to your taste and wallet.
How much fabric do you need for a cape?
We focus on the following measures.
For men : Hip circumference and Product length from waist to knee.
For women : Bust circumference (Og3) and product length from the base of the chest to the knee.
Additionally, we add 10 cm to the length of the product - seam allowances.
We take the fabric according to the length plus allowances.
For example, if the length from the base of the chest to the knee is 90 cm, you need to take 1 meter with a fabric width of 150 cm.
Length 50 cm, take 60 cm with the same width.
Important! If girth measurements (hips or chest) are more than 100 cm, buy fabrics twice as large - two lengths.
At 50 cm - 50x2 = 1 m + 10 cm (allowances) = 1.10 cm, at 90 cm - 90x2+10 = 1.90 cm.
Also, if the fabric is smaller in width than 1.50 cm, two lengths are needed.
What you need to sew a bath cape
To sew a cape you will need:
- Main fabric;
- Threads in tone or contrasting;
- Underwear elastic;
- Velcro tape;
- Sewing machine;
- Tape measure;
- Chalk for marking;
- Scissors;
- Iron.
Drawing of a bath cape pattern
The bath cape pattern is very simple.
You can build directly on the fabric or use a ready-made pattern from a suitable material.
Let's look at the construction of a pattern drawing for a women's cape, size 48. With a straight bottom cut, fastened with Velcro tape.
Measurements: Og3 – 96 cm. Disd – 1.0 m.
Bust measurement is less than 100, fabric needed: 1.0 +10 cm - 1.10 m.
Note: Usually the width of the wrap in standard products: skirts, dresses, etc. is taken to be 10-15 cm. To pattern a bathhouse cape, we double the width of the wrap. Up to size 46 we add 20-25 cm. From size 48 – 30-35 cm.
In my example, the width of the smell = 30 cm.
We build the pattern in half size.
Stages of constructing a cape pattern
- We begin constructing the cape pattern by placing point 1 in the upper left corner.
- From point 1 to the right we draw a straight line.
- Along the line we plot the value of the measure Cg3 (half of OG3) - point 2.
- From point 2 we plot the odor value - point 3
- Perpendicular to line 1-3, draw straight lines down from points 1 and 3.
- Set aside the value of the Dizd measure. – points 4 and 5.
- Connect points 4 and 5.
- From point 5 to the right along the line we set aside 1.5 - 2.0 cm (for the harmony of the smell in dynamics). Point 6.
- We connect points 3 and 6 - a refined new cut line for the cape.
- From point 2 to the left we will step back 3-4 cm. This is the mark for attaching the elastic.
- From point 2 to the right, and from point 3 to the left, set aside 5-6 cm. Points 2′ and 3' are markings for attaching Velcro tape.
Kilt decoration for a bath
These bath accessories are decorated with pockets and appliques. The pockets are functional. You can put gold jewelry in them, since during your stay in the bath they become very hot and can burn your skin.
The shape of the pocket should match the kilt pattern. Typically, cuts in a men's kilt are not rounded; therefore, the pockets should be rectangular or square. In women's pareos, for beauty and convenience, the edge of the fabric is rounded, so the pocket can be made curly.
You can use ready-made accessories as an applique. These are fabric patches that need to be sewn to the pocket. Sometimes women's pareos are complemented with ribbons, bows and even lace.
If you know how to embroider, you can add a beautiful pattern to your pareo. It is very convenient to cross stitch on waffle fabric. You can sew a kilt in the national style, adding a pattern to it. For embroidery, choose well-dyed threads. They shouldn't shed. After all, the bathhouse has high humidity and temperature.
To decorate your child's kilt, choose a cute applique. Nowadays there are many products on sale with images of animals or cartoon characters. Pay attention to the reverse side of the applique. It must be fabric. Do not purchase adhesive applications under any circumstances. They will not stick to terry cloth. In addition, high temperatures can cause the glue to melt and damage the fabric.

How to make a warm bath mini-sarafan towel for saunas, baths and beaches
During the cold season, the sauna is especially successful: it helps to warm up and boost immunity. From time to time in winter, many people manage to use the bathhouse. For both of these places, as well as just after a bath/shower or for relaxing on the beach in summer, a sundress towel will come in handy. It will allow you to leave your hands free, hide everything unnecessary from prying eyes, give you the opportunity to relax and warm up and/or not change your body temperature too sharply after a steamy bath when entering a cool room. At the same time, our sundress does not constantly open up and does not get tangled in the legs and arms, like a bathrobe, and at the same time absorbs excess moisture from the body. And you can comfortably parade along the beach or get ready at home for a busy day or bed.
A handmade sundress-towel is also a unique and luxurious gift for any person who often visits saunas, spas and especially loves to constantly take baths before bed. There are a huge variety of colors of bath towels, so you can always choose the ideal option for yourself and the recipient.
You will need : - Ribbons/braid to match the color of the towels and 3.8-4 cm wide (choose dense ones so that they are difficult to damage, but soft so that the edges do not cut or rub steamed skin that is susceptible to external influences); — Sewing centimeter; — Sharp scissors; — Pins; - Sewing machine; — Wide elastic band about 2.5 cm wide; — Safety safety pin; - A small piece of Velcro (available at any fabric store).
1. Choose a towel. Terry, flannelette - any dense, but not too much (thin - for terry fabric, thin is better), and soft. The long side of the towel should be slightly larger than the circumference of the hips - 7.6-10 centimeters (or even more if you decide to sew the side edge of the sundress) - but the wider the hips, the more you add so that later it will be comfortable to sit in the sundress. Well, or, of course, if the thighs are not the most voluminous part of your body, orient along the other - the most voluminous.
The smaller edge of the towel is the minimum distance from the armpits to the level above the knee, otherwise when sitting, your sundress will ride up to an unacceptable height due to the thickness of the material, incl.
Don’t forget that terry towels can be easily trimmed – for example, if you are making a bath sundress like this for a child. At the same time, we trim the cut edge with stretch braid (or a strip of fabric cut diagonally) or slightly bend it inside out and hem it, as usual.
2. Cut a skein of ribbon 7.6 cm longer than the long edge of your towel. We make an indent of 3.8-4 cm from the upper long edge of the towel and pin the tape on the front side at this level so that the tip of the tape 3.8 cm long “sticks out” on the right and left sides.
3. Using a straight seam in increments of medium length, sew the cut piece to the towel from both long edges of the tape (with some indentation from these edges). We leave the side edges of the ribbon open (not sewn), and do not forget to remove the pins as the sewing machine needle approaches them. The tape will become a kind of tube pocket for the elastic band.
4. Take the top measurement above the bust - right under the armpits. We cut off a piece of wide elastic of the obtained length: the elastic will then become stretched thanks to the folds of the dense fabric, plus you can reduce the circumference of the top of the sundress using Velcro.
5. We attach a large safety pin to 1 end of the elastic band.
6. Insert a pin with the end of an elastic band between the towel and the sewn ribbon and drag the pin to the opposite end of the ribbon. Be careful so that the free end of the elastic does not “run away” under the sewn ribbon. If the elastic band starts to stubbornly run away, proceed directly to the next step.
7. First, machine sew the tip of the elastic without a safety pin to the towel. Then, if necessary, pull the opposite tip with the pin to the end. Remove the safety pin and pin the second end of the elastic to the towel with a regular pin. We sew this tip on the machine in the same way.
Who should wear what?
In general, it is impossible to call a bathhouse kilt a purely male item, or a pareo a purely feminine item of clothing. It all depends on the preferences of the person himself.
It is important to remember that both male and female are just a replacement for a towel in the sauna. The towel needs constant fixation, so you can’t enjoy the bath normally. A bath kilt eliminates this inconvenience.
Men's bath clothing is no different from women's. Unless the women's one is a little embellished or has a distinctive design. The same can be said about pareos.
Terry kilt for a bath - the most popular
Let's start sewing the product
3. Pull the elastic evenly along the entire length of the product, and sew a stitch along the upper side edge of the product.
5. Sew hard linden to the upper right cut of the front side of the kilt.
In conclusion, I would like to add that the size of the kilt and the length of the elastic can vary according to the type of figure. A kilt can be either male or female. The women's version is called a pareo and the fastener is sewn on the other side.
If you have simple sewing skills and are familiar with a sewing machine, then sewing a kilt for a bathhouse yourself will not be difficult.
By the way, this bath accessory can be a wonderful gift. Believe me, every bath and steam room lover will be pleased to receive such a bath accessory as a gift, because the thing is necessary and useful!

Choosing a bath towel
So, when choosing soft companions for bath procedures, you need to pay attention to the following points:
Terry opens the hit parade. It perfectly absorbs moisture, retains heat, allows air to pass through, has a long service life, and is easy to maintain. In addition, a terry product can be used to make a skirt, a sundress, and a men's kilt towel.
In second place is linen fabric. It perfectly absorbs moisture, allows air to pass through, is wear-resistant, has bactericidal properties, dries quickly, is pleasant to the touch, and does not irritate the skin.
The third place is occupied by bamboo material. It perfectly absorbs moisture, allows air to pass through and is highly durable. In addition, this fabric is known for its anti-inflammatory, antiviral, bactericidal and protective effect, which is especially important since it is quite easy to introduce some kind of infection into steamed skin. Bamboo fabric kills up to 70% of bacteria. It is absolutely safe and hypoallergenic. It is also very gentle, soft and does not stick to the body.
Jacquard and velor fabrics are also popular, but bathhouse fans do not recommend purchasing towels made from these materials, since they do not absorb moisture well, are difficult to care for, and have a fairly high price.
Thus, dear ladies, preference should be given to a terry, linen or bamboo towel.
Aesthetics
Yes, without a doubt, a towel should be attractive. Women love beautiful things. However, representatives of the fair sex often make a common mistake: they looked and bought. But you need to take the product in your hands, turn it, twist it, touch it and smell it. This looks, of course, comical, but health is still more important.
A high-quality towel should exude a pleasant aroma without any pungent odors. It is also unacceptable for plaque or lint to remain on your hands. In addition, a sign of a useless product is uneven coloring, bristling threads, uneven stitches (seams), and synthetic impurities. And, of course, the low price is a reason to be wary. A good thing cannot be cheap.
Ergonomics
So, we've sorted out the beauty. But there are a couple more nuances, one of them is size. The following products are perfect for a bath:
Have you ever experienced discomfort in the bathhouse due to untying a knot on a towel and causing the product to slide down? It’s terrible, I was diligently twisting that knot, and then at the most unexpected moment it comes untied, and the bathing comrade is already lying at his feet. If there are only girls in the sauna, it’s nothing, they just laugh and that’s it, but when there’s a big group headed by men, you’ll agree, it’s not comme il faut. And it will save you from a moment of shame - a Velcro bath towel is a great thing! It will not fail at the most inopportune moment.
So, let's summarize. The product must be of high quality, comfortable and beautiful! And I have a cool idea in store for fashionistas. Intrigued?
Minimum set of clothes for a steam room
Before deciding what to wear to the bathhouse, it is important to understand why you need this or that item of bathing clothing in the steam room. The list of necessary bath accessories includes:
- kilt and pareo;
- bath cap;
- swimsuit;
- robe.
Previously, long towels or sheets were always brought to the baths, in which you could easily wrap your body. Now you can also go this route, but it is much more convenient to take a kilt or pareo to the sauna instead of bath sheets. Their advantage is that they will fit tightly on the body, and also take up much less space in the bag than the same terry sheet.
Externally, a kilt is a piece of fabric that can be wrapped around the hips and fastened with Velcro or a button, which ensures the durability of the outfit. As a rule, the size of a men's kilt reaches from the waist to the knees. This length is very convenient, since in a kilt you can safely sit on any surface in the bathhouse without the risk of getting burned or catching a fungus, which really loves the humid, warm atmosphere that reigns in bathhouses.
Women's pareos perform similar functions in the steam room. Unlike beach options, pareos intended for baths are made from denser materials, because transparent fabrics are not able to protect the body from exposure to high temperatures. Depending on the preferences of the owner of the pareo, it can be worn up to the top, completely covering the chest and most of the hips, or lowered to the waist and worn like an elongated kilt.
Designers showed their imagination and slightly modified pareos, turning them into dresses for visiting the bathhouse. In this case, two loops are sewn to the classic pareo, acting as hangers, like in a sundress, thanks to which the bathing outfit adheres even more firmly to the body. For greater convenience, pareos or bath dresses are equipped with pockets in which you can hide, for example, a hair tie or other necessary small items.
You cannot appear in a bath without such an important item of bath wardrobe as a special cap. The most popular model is a felt cap, which reliably hides the hair and scalp. The felt cap looks thick-walled, and this may give the impression that it will be extremely hot on your head in the bathhouse. But it's not like that. In fact, such a bath headdress creates a special thermos effect, maintaining a normal temperature underneath, preventing the risk of overheating of the head. In addition, felt is a natural material that allows the skin to breathe in the bathhouse. The modern bath accessories market is filled with a large number of similar products of an original look.
Be careful not to enter the steam room with wet hair.
Because of this, the load on the blood vessels passing through the head increases. Also, the hair itself can quickly dry out, which will lead to brittleness and a dull appearance. If you don't have a bath cap, at worst, wrap your head thoroughly with a towel before entering the steam room. But with a bare head, entry into it is closed.
In steam rooms with swimming pools, women should take swimsuits in addition to pareos. But at the same time, you cannot wear synthetic materials in the baths. A way out of this situation could be knitted swimsuits made from natural threads.
For example, it could be linen, cotton or bamboo threads. Ideally, you need to buy threads with 100% natural materials. But since this practically never happens, select the threads in such a way that their composition consists of at least 80% natural materials.
Another essential element of bath clothing is the bathrobe. It will be especially useful if you plan to visit a public steam room. The most common are terry bathrobes, which perfectly absorb moisture. The longer the pile, the higher its ability to absorb water. But it is important to choose the most optimal option, in which the villi will be of medium length.
Long-pile bathrobes are very soft and pleasant to the body, but when they become saturated with water, they become very heavy. And these robes can even take several days to dry completely.
You can also take a closer look at steam room robes made from microfiber and bamboo. They absorb water well, and bamboo robes are also good for their antiseptic properties. You won’t have to worry about fungal diseases in the bathhouse wearing this robe. But the cost of such products is much higher than those made from terry material.
Of particular importance for bath accessories is not so much their appearance, but the quality of the material from which the same pareos are sewn. Most often, clothes for a bath are sewn from the following materials:
- terry cloth;
- waffle;
- linen;
- bamboo;
- microfiber.
Terry pareos are made from natural cotton, which performs well in conditions of high humidity and high temperatures typical of a bathhouse. This material varies in structure. It can consist of single or double loops, which create the pile. This pareo fabric option perfectly absorbs moisture and allows the skin to breathe.
Depending on the length of the pile, terry fabrics differ in their effect on the skin.
Options | Impact |
Softer models. | They pleasantly envelop the body without causing any unpleasant sensations to the skin. |
Fabrics with short pile and patterns. | They have a massage effect, which is good for combating mild manifestations of cellulite. |
A more budget-friendly option are pareos and bathhouse kilts made from waffle fabric. It is also created on the basis of natural cotton, but it has well-expressed massage properties. This effect is achieved thanks to a special pattern made in the form of raised squares. The advantage of this material is that it allows air to pass through perfectly, and the skin underneath it breathes freely. In addition, pareos made of waffle fabric quickly absorb moisture. But this is also the disadvantage of these models. They are thinner than terry pareos, and therefore get wet quickly, and sitting in them in the bath will not be so comfortable.
Pareos made from linen fabric will not be as soft as terry ones, but they are famous for their antibacterial properties. If you have skin problems or your skin is prone to allergic reactions, a linen pareo will be the healthiest option for a bath. Also, linen-based fabric is good because in the steam room it helps cool the skin, preventing it from overheating, but in the rest room, where the air is cooler, this material will help keep the body warm.
Bamboo pareo fabric looks like terry cloth, as it is just as fluffy. This option perfectly absorbs moisture, retains it inside and provides air ventilation. But its main advantage is its hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties. The disadvantage of such products is their higher price.
Microfiber pareo has high moisture absorption and air permeability. At the same time, the material can be quickly and easily washed and dried. But the disadvantage of this matter lies in its artificial nature. This synthetic fabric is created on the basis of polyester, which is not recommended to be brought into rooms with high temperature conditions, typical of a bathhouse.
Whatever material you prefer, try to choose a bath pareo in white or neutral beige shades. The fewer dyes and patterns on the fabric, the better it is for the bath. You will not know exactly how the dye contained in the material from which your clothes are made may react to high temperatures.
How to choose a kilt
Today, many offers of various bath kilts can be found on the Internet. Manufacturers offer kilts of varying quality and design.
The most common type is a terry product made from 100% cotton. However, for those who prefer other fabrics, there are kilts made from bamboo, linen and other natural materials.
There is also a very wide selection of designs available. Children's drawings, feminine and masculine tones, decorative elements are present in almost every option.
The cheapest ones cost 300-500 rubles. And the most expensive ones are from 3 thousand rubles and above.

Benefits of Wearing a Kilt
A kilt for saunas and baths is a piece of natural fabric that is wrapped around the body and securely fastened with fasteners. It performs an aesthetic and hygienic function, is a bath garment and protects intimate areas on the male and female body during procedures.
If necessary, secure fasteners can transform a traditional bath towel into a functional kilt. This is quite convenient and practical, especially when there is no time to buy a finished product, and ordinary bath towels are always at hand.
The kilt is a traditional skirt that is part of the folk dress of the Scottish Highlanders. Woolen fabrics were used to sew skirts, which provided reliable protection for the lower body from the cold.
A modern bath kilt when visiting a steam room is designed for quick absorption of moisture and good air exchange.
The advantages of the product include:
- quick transformation into a bath towel;
- high moisture-absorbing characteristics;
- reliable fixation on the body;
- freedom and ease of movement;
- sewing from natural materials;
- practicality, durability and wear resistance.
It’s not for nothing that many dare to sew a bath towel with Velcro with their own hands, because it has many advantages, the main of which are:
- Ability to easily transform into a sheet or towel.
- Ability to absorb moisture well.
- The ability not to hinder movement.
- The ability not to slip off the body.
A bath kilt can be for women or men. They differ from each other not too significantly:
- The men's model is slightly shorter, but wider.
- Women's accessories are made taking into account the distance from the top of the chest to the knees. They are attached by smell, that is, one piece of fabric is placed on top of another. But to increase the strength of holding the kilt on the body, Velcro is also used.
Important! In terms of decoration, kilts are quite diverse: men's kilts mainly have elegant decor in the form of embroidery, women's models are decorated with ribbons or bows.
Doctors' opinion
Staying in a sauna in the nude has a medical basis. Exposure to high temperatures on the body provokes intense sweating. Sweat not only removes excess fluids, but also protects the skin from excessive overheating (drops of sweat cool the body). If you have clothes on your body, sweat is instantly absorbed and does not cool the skin. Because of this, the body may overheat. In young sauna visitors with strong blood vessels, it can pass without consequences, but people with excess body weight and hypertension are at risk.
The Germans follow the recommendation to go naked to saunas (even public ones). Moreover, the first point of the rules that guests of a German sauna will see is: “Von der Kleidung verboten” (“No clothing allowed”). The democratic nature of the Germans is not entirely appropriate in a more conservative Russia. If you plan to go to the sauna with us, you should wear a more covered outfit than a hat and flip-flops.
Types of bath kilts
There are male and female versions of steam room kilts. The differences between them are only in the length and width of the products.
- The accessory for men has a shortened length, measuring the distance from the waist to the knees. Embroidery is used as decoration.
- To sew a women's kilt or pareo, the body length from chest to knees is taken into account. This product is made from a single piece of fabric and is fixed over the chest using tape, fasteners or Velcro. Can be decorated with bows and embroidery.
Many manufacturers offer children's kilts in their line, taking into account the age and gender characteristics of the child.
In addition, such a bath accessory can be classified according to the type of fabric that is used to sew it:
- Mahra. High-quality, durable and practical material with a high hygroscopicity rate. It cools the body well in summer and warms in winter, has an attractive appearance and a wide palette of colors. A terry kilt has several significant disadvantages: long drying time, heavy weight and high cost.
- Cotton. Material with a breathable structure and high hygienic characteristics. It is soft, gentle and pleasant to the touch. Significant disadvantages of a kilt made of cotton fabric are possible shrinkage during washing and long drying time.
- Wafer material. It has high hypoallergenic, hygroscopic and strength characteristics. Convenient washing, quick drying and practicality make it indispensable when sewing bath accessories. For products, material with a density of up to 250 g/sq.cm is used. The only drawback of a waffle fabric kilt is excessive moisture absorption.
- Bamboo fiber. Material with high performance characteristics: practicality, durability, good air exchange, ease of maintenance. A kilt made of bamboo fabric does not shrink, does not wrinkle and does not absorb foreign odors.
- Natural linen. The material has high thermal conductivity and strength properties. At the same time, it is easy to wash, quick to dry and resistant to stretching. The disadvantages of a linen kilt include high maintenance requirements and easy creasing.
What are they?
Bath dresses are made from the same fabrics as ordinary towels. Pareo can be:
- Makhrov. Terry fabric is most often made from cotton, however, it can also be made from linen with the addition of cotton.
- Waffle. This is 100% cotton.
- Made from linen fabric.
- Made from bamboo fabric.
Cotton pareo
When choosing a pareo for a bath, you should pay attention to the properties of the fabric from which this clothing is made. Two types of bath dresses are made from cotton: terry and waffle.
Terry fabric absorbs moisture well and produces a light massage effect; does not cause allergies or irritation to the skin, due to the fact that it is made from natural materials.
Terry is very practical: it is highly wear-resistant, a high-quality product made from such fabric can withstand hundreds of washes, and you don’t have to worry about the item shrinking or, conversely, stretching. Terry fabric tolerates washing perfectly at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius, which allows you to get rid of dirt and germs.
The disadvantage of terry fabric is that it takes a long time to dry. In addition, a terry product, which absorbs moisture very well, has a thick and high pile and is therefore quite heavy. The fabric must be protected from contact with objects that can get caught in the pile and pull out its loops.
Waffle fabric also perfectly absorbs moisture and is hypoallergenic, while it has good breathability (that is, it allows air to pass well to the body) and dries quickly. Waffle fabric is also wear-resistant, durable and can be washed at high temperatures. It is also lightweight and does not take up much space in your bag. In addition, a waffle fabric pareo is cheaper than other options.
Linen and bamboo
Bath towel dresses are also made from linen fabric. It is considered the most durable and wear-resistant among natural fabrics, it also has excellent breathability (allows the body to breathe) and is very durable, while not requiring special care. Moisture evaporates from it faster than from other types of fabrics, so clothes made of linen are very comfortable to wear in the heat - you don’t have to worry about overheating, and a linen dress-towel is very suitable for a bath.
It is generally accepted that linen has natural antiseptic properties.
The disadvantage of linen clothing is that it wrinkles very much. However, this can be considered as evidence of the naturalness of the fabric from which it is sewn, and even during a stay in the bathhouse this drawback does not have much significance.
Fabric made from bamboo fiber is similar to linen in some of its properties. It has excellent breathability, wear resistance, strength, and a natural antimicrobial effect. Fabric made from bamboo fiber is considered artificial, but it is made from natural raw materials. Does not wrinkle and is pleasant to the touch.
