Shower in the bath: arrangement rules, finishing options

The bath complex includes a steam room, a dressing room, a washing room and a relaxation room. In more primitive, compact designs, the last two rooms are absent, but rest will be deprived of a certain comfort. There are many traditions associated with the Russian bathhouse in our country. The benefits of steaming were highly valued back in the days of Ancient Rus'. Even any poor person washed himself in the bathhouse every Saturday; perhaps it was precisely this regularity that determined the heroic health for which the Russians were famous. The structure was always erected on the outskirts, away from residential buildings. Although the explanation for this is easy to find in folklore (dirt and the concentration of unclean spirits), it is more likely that our ancestors observed basic fire safety rules. There were no icons in the bathhouse; they tried not to bring utensils from it into the house. Superstitions said that it was chosen as a home by a small dirty trickster - a bannik, who, like the brownie, had to be constantly appeased with food.

All ritual fortune-telling took place in this building, because the holy images here did not keep an eye on the young girls eager to find out the name of their betrothed. Although modern alternatives to baths have now appeared - saunas (Finnish version), Jacuzzis, Japanese barrels, they still remain relevant. The most “soulful” holiday is spent here. Moreover, the process of steaming with birch brooms and herbal steam takes up only a small part of leisure time, and special attention is paid to friendly conversations in the relaxation room after the procedures. The washing area in the bathhouse is necessary for rinsing after the steam room. Some people think that you need to come here washed, because on clean skin the pores open better under the influence of steam, because the procedure is more designed for healing. In the article we will look at examples of arranging washing stations and the rules for their design.

Ventilation

Before you start using any bathhouse, you need to take care of a high-quality ventilation system. There are two types of similar systems that are relevant for wooden showers:

  1. Natural - two windows located at different heights. Through one, the flow of fresh air enters the room, through the other it is discharged outside.
  2. Forced - the design resembles a natural system, but a fan is installed at the exhaust vent, which speeds up the process of air circulation in the room.

The second ventilation option is suitable for large showers. The first is sufficient for small buildings.

Dimensions and design of a mini sauna

There are ready-made saunas on sale - cabins that are simply installed in the bathroom. Cabin sizes may vary. In the smallest single or double cabins you can only sit on a bench. It is more comfortable to take bath procedures in cabins measuring 2x1.6 m and 2x2 m. In such cabins you can lie down not alone, but together. The height of the sauna cabin inside should be about 2 m.

Inside the cabin there is an electric sauna heater, as well as wooden benches and shelves on two or three levels. The walls and ceiling of the cabin are a three-layer sandwich, which consists of internal wooden panels, mineral wool insulation and external cladding.

The interior panels of the cabin are made from certain types of wood. For example, coniferous wood of northern spruce, fir or cedar releases aromatic substances when heated. But the aroma should be light, there should not be too much of it. Therefore, pine wood, which contains a lot of resins, is not recommended. Panels made of aspen or linden create a more neutral atmosphere in the sauna.

The thickness of mineral wool insulation is at least 5 cm. Foamed polymers are not used for thermal insulation of saunas. They are flammable and already at operating temperature in the sauna they can decompose and release harmful substances.

Finished booths are sold disassembled. The booth must be assembled at the installation site. A gap of 20-50 mm is left between the stall and the bathroom wall. for ventilation.

Selection of finishing material

When building a bathhouse for a family in a private house, it is best to use hardwood with low thermal conductivity. The material can be selected according to color, texture, smell, and healing properties.

Alder has a variety of textures and shades. Wood is resistant to moisture and has healing antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Linden has diaphoretic and cleansing properties. The material is strong, durable, relatively inexpensive, has a soft pink color and looks aesthetically pleasing.

Cedar is a useful and expensive material for a sauna. It has high bactericidal properties and an attractive appearance.

You should not use pine in the steam room. When heated, it releases resin, which can cause a burn upon contact.

Arrangement of the floor in the washing room

A properly equipped floor will help create an attractive interior for a bathhouse washroom. It must meet a number of requirements - at a minimum, it should not slip, and its maintenance should not be difficult.

Most professionals believe that a tiled sink in a bathhouse will look best. In addition, such material is relatively inexpensive.

To drain water from the sink, ladders made of wooden slats or rubber mats (pro

Room layout

Finishing the shower room in the bathhouse should begin after planning the room. To do this, it is recommended to draw up a separate drawing of the room, which indicates the location of the washing room elements. Features of drawing up a plan:

  1. A shower with a mixer should be installed in a place where it is more convenient to supply cold and hot water through the pipeline.
  2. Along the perimeter of the room, shelves should be fixed on which washcloths, shampoos, and soaps will be placed.
  3. It is better to leave the central washing area free. This place will be convenient for dousing yourself with cool water after the steam room.

It is necessary to arrange the shower elements so that they do not interfere with movement and water procedures.

Providing the wash room with water

Calculation of the capacity of the water supply pipes must be made based on the expected number of people and the area of the future bathhouse, since a sufficient water supply is an important condition for the functioning of the bathhouse.

To provide washing hot water in sufficient quantity, you can choose one of the following methods:

  • heating water with a gas heater, if it is possible to supply gas to the bathhouse;
  • using an electric boiler.

Thus, if it is possible to connect to the central water supply, then solving the issue of providing water is not difficult.

But if no communications are laid near the bathhouse, the required amount of water for washing all visitors to the bathhouse must be prepared in advance so that everyone can collect the required volume of water for themselves in a separate container.

Therefore, the calculation of the approximate volume of water must be made in advance. Considering that on average one person needs about 7-10 liters of hot water at 80-90 ºС and 3-4 times more cold water, it turns out that each steamer will need about 45 liters of water.

By multiplying the resulting value by the number of visitors to the steam room, you can determine how much water is required. Hot water is prepared in a large vat, leaving it on a stove, which is usually heated with birch wood.

How to properly decorate the inside of a bathhouse?

Construction of a bathhouse requires a thoughtful approach. Initially, care should be taken to select special finishing materials. Particularly popular are:

  • Lining made from natural wood.
  • Tile designed for bathing areas.

Finishing the bath with tiles

  • Material imitating timber.
  • Special weave made from beech or wicker.
  • Block house made from slab.

You can create the interior of the bathhouse that matches your wishes. By giving preference to natural materials, you can enjoy the wonderful aroma of wood. It is very easy to breathe in such a room.

Finishing the bath with natural wood

High-quality materials allow you to create a wonderful bathhouse interior. It makes sense to simultaneously order furniture that fits perfectly with the chosen style. This solution looks stylish and puts you in a positive mood.

Manufacturers

Choosing the right device from the variety presented is not easy. First, you should identify the most popular models that have won the trust of customers. Among them are the following shower cabins with sauna:

  • AM brand cabins. They have virtually no negative reviews, due to their reliability, versatility and affordability. They are devices with a steam generator and hydromassage. Price on average from 70,000 rubles.
  • Finnish sauna lovers can recommend the Niagara cabin. The compartment, lined with wooden slats, recreates the authentic atmosphere of a Finnish steam room, while the design itself is very ergonomic. The average price is from 100,000 rubles.
  • Luxus 532 units are equipped with a steam generation function. A distinctive feature is deep pallets. Various configurations of systems are possible, which affects the cost. It ranges from 50,000 – 90,000 rubles.
  • The Aqvapol modification with an infrared bath is characterized by affordability (from 30,000 rubles). It is a closed structure with sliding doors. The disadvantage is that it is quite large in size.

The designs of the Canadian brand Banff are always popular. Cabins with a sauna are rightfully considered the pride of the manufacturer. Their finishing is made of Canadian red cedar wood. Upon contact with steam, it releases a healing fragrance. The material itself does not have a specific shade - it is a whole range of colors from soft lemon to dark chocolate.

Impeccable aesthetics are combined in these models with innovative solutions and versatility. The manufacturer boasts a variety of pallets - these are ceramic, cast iron and acrylic models. Premium segment products use natural marble pallets.

The internal organization of the cabin space is always thought out - there are folding seats, comfortable shelves, and modern anti-slip coatings. Standard models include a sauna box, control panel, aromatherapy device, hydromassage with 6-10 nozzles, regular and tropical shower. The cost of models depends on the configuration and size, the average price is 150,000 -200,000 rubles.

Finishing materials

In Russian baths, steam had a special healing effect due to contact with the interior decoration made of logs. Wood has “breathable” pores that emit a unique aroma when exposed to high humidity. For this reason, bathhouses are not built from coniferous trees, as they emit resin. For interior decoration, it is not recommended to use artificial materials that can release toxins when heated: PVC panels and tiles, artificial stone, brick, MDF, and chipboard. The latter seem harmless, since they are based on waste from the woodworking industry, but the adhesive that holds the sawdust together can release harmful substances when heated. External walls are clad with clapboards. The interior is finished with thermolipa boards (a special material for baths) or block house. The floor is laid with planks or tiles, and the ceiling is lined with clapboard. In order for the required temperature regime to be maintained in the building for a long time, it is necessary to insulate it efficiently. For these purposes, three layers of different materials are used:

  • Vapor barrier. Foil insulation is used.
  • Mineral wool. Lightweight and non-flammable material.
  • Waterproofing film.

The resulting layered insulating “cake” is covered with finishing materials that perform a decorative function.

Peculiarities

The main feature of the Russian bath is wet steam. To create it, a certain humidity is maintained in the steam room. Humidity and steam balance is achieved by a complete lack of ventilation.

There are a huge number of options for finishing bath rooms. The choice depends on personal preferences and is limited by financial capabilities. The features of the interior decoration should traditionally be conducive to relaxation and spiritual pleasure. Therefore, the main thing in interior decoration is naturalness, convenience, and minimalism.

For example, an excellent natural decor for a steam room is a natural log house. However, the latest construction technologies require the use of more modern methods of constructing a bathhouse, so structures often require finishing materials.

Additional materials should not negatively affect the basic requirements for the bath:

  • the steam room, shower, relaxation room should have a beautiful and practical design;
  • in the steam room it is important to have hot but not scalding steam;
  • In the shower, both convenience and safety are important.

Properly selected materials will have a positive impact on the functional features of the bathhouse. They will also affect the service life of the walls, floors, and ceilings of the premises. It is important to choose materials of the right quality in accordance with the characteristics of the bath premises.

For example, a steam room is distinguished by the constant presence of hot steam, which comes in a concentrated form and is quite dense. In addition, there are temperature changes in this room, as well as high humidity.

Many materials may not withstand such an extreme situation. However, the modern market offers a lot of interesting finishing options that best suit the conditions of the steam room.

The finishing features for the steam room should be as follows:

  • have the ability to warm up and not accumulate heat;
  • be moisture resistant;
  • have good aesthetic characteristics;
  • be resistant to fungus and mold;
  • have the ability to purify the air.

The washing room involves not only washing, but also relaxation. Classic choice: wood, ceramic tiles. For washing, for example, coniferous wood is suitable. It has high water-repellent qualities. In addition, conifers have a beautiful appearance. The floor in this room should have anti-slip properties, as well as a comfortable temperature. Ceramic tiles can help achieve results.

As a reliable material for the vestibule and rest room, you can choose:

Greater aesthetics and practicality can be achieved by combining these finishes. In a bathhouse created with your own hands, it is possible to realize the most non-standard ideas. Select the optimal types of finishes and their variations.

Traditional decoration inside the bathhouse made of wood. The most suitable wooden base for finishing is lining.

These special finishing panels have the main advantages:

  • good air circulation;
  • zero condensate;
  • beautiful appearance;
  • easy installation;
  • acceptable price.

The best starting materials for lining are: larch, linden, alder, ash. Hardwood walls warm up faster, while the outside temperature of the walls remains comfortable for human skin.

Unlike conifers, hardwoods do not emit resins, so they are considered harmless for finishing the walls of a steam room.

Pine lining, for example, is not at all suitable for a steam room. When heated, this base will release toxic substances and is also covered with resin, which can drip from the walls and ceiling and cause burns.

Options for the type of finishing “lining” are classy. For example, class C has a low cost and is suitable for finishing vestibule walls. Class B is equipped with contrasting inclusions, cracks, and minor damage. Every 1.5 meters of length of such a lining implies the presence of a certain number of knots. The lining is suitable for the design of a rest room in a natural style, as well as for a vestibule.

Class A lining allows for a few small cracks. However, it does not allow visible cores on the cut. There may be at least one knot per 1.5 meters of length. Class A lining is suitable for finishing the walls of some areas of the steam room.

Premium class lining has an excellent appearance , but a corresponding price. The material can be used to cover the walls of a steam room, relaxation room, or washing room. Linden croaker will serve as an excellent wall decoration. The material does not allow overheating and does not release resins. Linden panels will serve as high-quality sound insulation; they can be supplemented with unedged boards.

For vapor barrier of the steam room, basalt mineral wool and foil in the form of a film are used. Both the walls and the ceiling are sheathed with foil for waterproofing purposes. In order to insulate the stove in the steam room, it is permissible to use brick and salt for finishing.

It is permissible to use Himalayan salt in the bath. A salt bath combines the positive properties of a dry steam room and a healing chamber, providing a beneficial effect on a person.

Work related to finishing the ceiling begins with laying insulation in the attic. To prevent dust from entering the room, all cracks between the boards must be sealed. Brick chips and other bulk options are used as insulation material.

The ceiling of the bathhouse must withstand temperature loads. Finishing materials must resist steam flows. You should not choose materials for finishing the ceiling that emit toxic substances when heated.

Therefore, it is not recommended to use materials such as plywood or chipboard from the inside - they contain sawdust, which is a fire hazard. Do not choose polystyrene foam or polystyrene foam or polyethylene films as insulation; they are afraid of high temperatures.

The building foundations that are relevant for a bathhouse ceiling are spruce or pine beams for beams and ceilings, unedged boards or tongue and groove for the first ceiling, class A or B linden lining for the interior ceiling lining. Aluminum foil and membrane films can be used for vapor barrier, and membrane films for waterproofing. You can sheathe the steam room with linden and bast.

Linden croaker with bast is an ideal option for finishing a bathhouse ceiling in a natural style.

The optimal choice for the floor of all rooms of the bath, except for the steam room, is ceramic tiles. A block of tiles in a steam room may be present near the stove. The variety of modern collections will easily allow you to choose the right design for a relaxation room or washroom. At the same time, tiling will not only be comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, but also practical and durable.

The floor of the steam room can be made of concrete or wood. Concrete or stone floors are cold. Therefore, wood is often preferred. Wooden floors require the preparation of a foundation on which beams are laid, and logs are laid on top of them. The voids between beams and joists are filled with insulation, which is expanded clay. A vapor barrier and waterproofing are laid on top of the insulation, then the finishing floor is installed.

A concrete floor requires a foundation made of crushed stone and clay. Roofing felt and bitumen mastic serve as waterproofing. The insulation can be mineral wool or expanded clay. The finishing layer of the floor is laid on the heat-insulating surface.

The Russian bathhouse is an oasis of folk country music. Simple chintz curtains on the windows and hand-made paintings are appropriate here. Often the hunting style and other natural design options are embodied in the bathhouse.

For example, a steam room is considered the real heart of a bathhouse, and therefore its interior should be living, breathing. Synthetic materials are not allowed, especially near the stove. All items in the steam room must be of high quality safety and natural purity.

Combinations of finishing materials such as lining and stone, brick and granite slabs, and block house will look especially designer in the steam room. In addition to beauty, the interior of the steam room must be absolutely safe. Therefore, the design of a steam room is often a compromise of choice. In a steam room, strict curves of the shelves, hidden light, and noble stone behind the stove are effective.

If a separate room for vacationers is designed in the bathhouse, then all the attention in the design is to comfort. The same naturalness comes first here. Curtains with flounces and strict blinds on the windows are appropriate in the design. This bathhouse room is usually compact, but bright.

However, there are no special design requirements. It is desirable that everything be decorated in fairly calm colors, conducive to a comfortable pastime.

A modern bathhouse requires the arrangement of a washing room. Full plumbing fixtures are allowed for installation here. Often this place is a pool of unimaginable shapes. Due to the lack of space for arranging a swimming pool, showers are installed in the washing room. Stylish modern shower stalls will not take up much space, and will fit well into the interior of the bathhouse. It is not even necessary to allocate a separate room for showers.

The internal washing area in the Russian bathhouse was also built around the stove, in the steam room. Simple basins and ladles served as washing objects. Taking into account the capabilities of modern materials, all this can be implemented in current bathhouse buildings.

The design of a bathhouse can be interconnected with personal perception of colors and their combinations. This feature depends on the physiological structure of the eyes, the state of the nerves, and life experience. Psychologists say that for women color is more important than shape, while for men content is more important. At the same time, a person has the ability to associate something with something all the time.

Bathhouse design is a purely individual choice and should be based only on your personal idea of relaxation.

Types of interior design of baths

The classic layout of a bathhouse includes 3 rooms: a dressing room (dressing room), a washing room (shower room) and a steam room. Although in traditional Russian baths the steam room and shower can be combined. All additional premises - a font (swimming pool), a games room (billiards), a kitchen, a recreation area, a toilet, a smoking room - are a matter of financial capabilities and personal preferences of the owners.

The interior of an old-style bathhouse can be complemented with forged elements, wooden household items and utensils decorated with carvings. Walls decorated with oak, birch brooms or bundles of fragrant herbs will also look colorful.

Tips for choosing equipment

As we said above, the trendsetters in this area are the Germans, Italians, and, oddly enough, Czech manufacturers who have been making high-quality shower stands for a long time. China is not far behind, whose “craftsmen” are trying their best to produce something worthy, but in reality it turns out that even a product carefully copied from the products of famous brands turns out to be so poor that it does not bring its owner a drop of moral satisfaction. The most unpleasant thing in this whole story is that the Chinese comrades, without further ado, imitate the products of famous brands, easily changing the name, or even completely engaging in outright plagiarism. Therefore, here are some tips:

  • If funds and opportunities allow, purchase European products;
  • Don't fall for the tricks of marketers. The presence of most of the functions in the booth is not needed, and if we are talking about Chinese products, then the more possibilities there are in their semi-finished product, the faster this “high-tech product” will fail;
  • Focus on functionality first. In the vast majority of cases, in a bathhouse, an ordinary open cabin with good and reliable plumbing fittings is enough to simply take a shower. In this regard, it is worth taking a closer look at the Czechs. Excellent European quality, for quite reasonable money;
  • If you choose a closed-type booth, then pay attention, in addition to the quality of the plumbing, to the quality and fit of the rollers and guides in systems with sliding doors and moving units in hinged ones. The supporting frame must be rigid, and the metal parts must be made of stainless steel. Pay special attention to the pallet. It should not “breathe”, and the body itself should be carefully reinforced with a polymer thread, the quality of which can be seen from the inside of the pallet. Avoid fittings made of silumin, centrifugal casting or injection molding. Such material is prone to fractures in places where stress is concentrated, and silumin cannot be welded, soldered or glued;
  • If you prefer broadly functional designs, then consider the capabilities of your own communications to unlock the full potential of such products. For example, massage nozzles can only operate if there is sufficient pressure in the supply hydraulic line. If the water supply network does not provide the minimum required pressure, you will have to install a hydraulic accumulator with a supply pump;
  • Transparent glass panels are more demanding in terms of quality and care. Frosted glass hides stains from hard water to a greater extent;
  • Cabins with a built-in water heating tank, in most cases, have a boiler with a reduced resource, which is especially evident in conditions of water supply from main networks or wells and wells that are not equipped with a water treatment system.

Sauna cabins for one, two people

The booths are available pre-fabricated or assembled from individual panels. The product can be placed in the bathroom

It is important that there are a few centimeters between the ceiling and the top of the booth. The average height of the product is about 2 m

Even if the bathroom is small, there is room in it for a cubicle designed for one person. The key advantage of the finished structure is the proper placement of ventilation and stove.

Saunas have an important and often decisive advantage over a Russian bath - they are universal, it is easier to build them from scratch or install them in an already finished room. There is a wide choice of dimensions and materials of the product

More often natural wood is used, such as linden or aspen. The doors of the structure are often made of glass. Custom manufacturing is necessary if you want to implement an original design. Then the booth can complement the style created in the bathroom or become the highlight of the room

Custom manufacturing is necessary if you want to implement an original design. Then the booth can complement the style created in the bathroom or become the highlight of the room.

It all depends on the amount of available space, the choice of sauna capacity and the financial capabilities of the homeowners.

Pumping equipment for cold water supply

In conditions where a residential building or cottage is connected to a central water supply system or has an autonomous water supply, it is enough to lay a water and sewer pipeline to the bathhouse.

If the pressure in the finished system is low or the water is supplied from a hydraulic structure - a well or a well, then it is recommended to use pumping equipment.

There are several types of water pumps:

  • Submersible pumps are used to supply water from shallow sources - wells, wells, rivers, reservoirs and lakes.
  • Surface pumps draw water from sources up to 7 meters deep. Such devices are suitable for water supply systems with a constant level of pressure.
  • Deep pumps are designed to supply water from deep-sea sources and are used for private wells of small diameter.

When designing a shower water supply system, it is recommended to pay attention to the selection of cleaning filters. This is important in cases where water is supplied from open water sources.

Coarse and fine filtration units are used to purify water. The first ensures cleaning from sand, mechanical impurities and blooming algae. The second prevents silt deposits and small debris from entering the water.

Rest room

The dressing room is the first room in which a person enters the bathhouse. This is the coolest and most spacious room; often there is a window in the dressing room.

This room is used for relaxation between “couple sessions”. A table is often set up inside the dressing room, where people gather to drink tea or something stronger and just talk. Sofas, armchairs or benches are installed around the table.

Advice! If there is high humidity in the dressing room, it is better to install wooden furniture. Fabric sofas and chairs can become infected with mold and mildew.

The interior and style of the relaxation room largely depends on the habits and preferences of the bathhouse owners. Here you can put a billiards table, a TV, a refrigerator with a microwave, or even a karaoke system.

An important accessory and irreplaceable part of a relaxation room in a bathhouse is dishes. It is better to choose original cups and plates with folk motifs in the ornament. The central decoration of the table in the bathhouse can be a Russian samovar, bright and colorful.

Stylistic design

The beauty of the interior depends on the direction in which the room is kept. To make the bathhouse look like a single whole, the design of the shower room becomes a natural continuation of the space with the steam room. The design can use related styles or options that have similar features.

Rustic

The classic Russian style will harmoniously fit into the interior of the log house. The room has many wooden details decorated with hand carvings. Textiles with national ornaments were placed on the windows, shelves and tabletops. The rubberized floor mat visually resembles a path with geometric patterns.

Heavy, rough furniture is appropriate in rustic design. The color of the wood of the interior items does not match the shades of the walls, floor and ceiling. Instead of benches, you can install wicker boxes with pillows. Household chemicals were placed on the shelves in containers resembling clay pots and bowls.

Chalet

The abundance of rough wood in the finishing of the bathhouse washroom makes the Alpine interior visually similar to a Russian rustic one. Stone-like tiles are used to decorate the shower. Antique faucets were made of bronze. On the walls there are forged hooks, hangers and shelves made of solid wood.

Rough, untreated furniture looks brutal and luxurious. Lamps in metal frames were placed under the ceiling of the washing room in the bathhouse. The interior of the room can be complemented with a real or decorative woodpile.

Minimalism

Decorating a shower in a bathhouse in a restrained style makes the room elegant and laconic. The simple geometry of the cabin blends harmoniously with the shape of the room. In a compact space, a pallet is used, and instead of doors, a curtain on rails is used.

A laconic direction in the soul Source houzz.se

Natural wood will add natural notes to minimalism. The panels on the walls are polished to a shine, and the floors have simple gray tiles. Instead of traditional furniture, a podium made of wood is installed. Spotlights are installed along the perimeter of the ceiling.

Loft

Brutal industrial style will fit perfectly into the interior of a room of any size. The design of a shower in a bathhouse is characterized by a deliberately rough finish. The walls in the washing room are often decorated with tiles reminiscent of the texture and color of plaster. The decor imitated with wild stone or brick looks original. The roughness of the finish is combined with a glossy floor covering.

Industrial style Source pinterest.com

The type of shower in the bathhouse depends on the parameters of the room. A full-fledged cabin with glass doors will harmoniously fit into a spacious room. In a compact space, the “wet” zone can be distinguished visually (finishing, lighting) or physically (half walls). The loft uses practical modern furniture.

Eco style

The natural direction harmoniously combines the simplicity of minimalism with decorativeness. A beautiful, comfortable interior is created using natural finishes. The design of a shower in a bathhouse combines the warm texture of wood with the smoothness of marble or the roughness of sandstone. Greenery details (stabilized moss, flowers) are appropriate indoors.

An eco-style shower is tiled with stone-like tiles or waterproof panels reminiscent of wood. Traditionally, sliding transparent partitions are used; there are options with half walls. The interior is furnished with furniture made from natural raw materials with minimal processing.

Waiting room

The room is not hot, but retains heat. Therefore, coniferous species will be an excellent material for finishing here. Their noble aroma is not only pleasant, but also incredibly useful. Phytoncides have a beneficial effect on the immune system, stimulate the body's resistance to various infections and improve overall well-being. Let's look at the main types:

  • Pine is a very popular material for dressing a dressing room, because it has a number of advantages: economical, durable, environmentally friendly and quite durable. May change color slightly over time, acquiring a reddish tint. Scandinavian pine with smooth pinkish wood is becoming increasingly popular. Its annual rings have an original decorative pattern;
  • spruce – has a uniform structure, does not crack when drying, and is slightly lighter in color than pine wood;
  • fir - the main characteristics are almost the same as spruce, while almost no resin is released from its wood.

Birch is a good option for a deciduous tree for a dressing room. In any case, when decorating, the main thing is to follow the basic rule - the entire room should be paneled with the same type of wood.

Which sauna is best for an apartment?

At first glance, it seems that apartment saunas are not in demand, therefore, the choice is not that big. In fact, thanks to the hot steam and dry heat lovers of the Scandinavian countries, the range of factory models is quite diverse.

Let's start with the fact that all structures can be divided into 3 large groups:

  • ready-made prefabricated factory-made models (from lining or panels), with a technical passport, warranty and professional installation;
  • frames made to order according to the provided sketch (indicating the dimensions, type of stove, number of seats, etc.);
  • buildings made independently according to ready-made or personally drawn up drawings.

The manufacturer is responsible for the operation of the first type along with you, and the remaining two points are solely on your conscience.

If a flood or fire occurs, as a result of which the residents of neighboring apartments suffer, the administrative violation will gradually turn into a criminal case - we advise you to consider all possible risks.

It’s much easier for residents of the private sector - if anyone gets hurt, it’s only the owner of the premises and his family.

Recommendations from professionals are in the following video:

Finishing material

Not all finishing materials are suitable for covering walls, ceilings, and floors inside the washing room. This is due to the influence of destructive factors.

Wood paneling and panels

Wood panels and lining are popular, classic finishing materials for Russian baths. They help give the room its originality.

Lining can be made from different types of wood:

  • conifers - spruce, cedar, pine;
  • deciduous - alder, aspen, linden, oak.

Coniferous lining is suitable for finishing recreation areas. For the washing room it is better to choose finishing material made of hardwood.

Benefits of wood:

  • durability, strength;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • attractive appearance;
  • ease of processing.

Flaws:

  1. Conifers secrete resin.
  2. Wood is destroyed by moisture and deformed by temperature changes.
  3. Fungus and mold often form on the panels.

To level out the shortcomings, the wood must be treated with special antiseptics.

Tile

Tile is not suitable for a steam room, since its surfaces quickly heat up under the influence of high temperatures, but for a washing room it would be the best option.

Advantages:

  1. Durability, reliability.
  2. Resistance to mechanical stress.
  3. Large selection of drawings.
  4. Easy to care for. To clean the tiles from dirt, you can wipe the surfaces with a damp cloth.
  5. Resistant to moisture and temperature changes.

Flaws:

  1. High price compared to wood, paint, plastic panels.
  2. Fragility. Tiles can easily break if accidentally dropped or hit.

You can lay the floor with tiles, but we must not forget that this is a cold material that will be unpleasant to walk on barefoot. To correct this drawback, you can install a “Warm Floor” system.

Artificial and natural stone

Such materials are used if you want to get a non-standard surface design.

Advantages:

  • attractive appearance;
  • large selection of sizes;
  • durability, mechanical resistance, strength, wear resistance;
  • immunity to moisture and temperature changes.

Flaws:

  • high price;
  • heavy weight.

To reduce the risk of stone collapse when fastening to walls, masonry should not be made higher than 50 cm.

Natural stone (Photo: Instagram / zelenii_kamen_perm)

Plastic panels

A universal finishing material that is resistant to aggressive factors. The panels cannot be used in a steam room, but they are suitable for a washing room and dressing room.

Advantages:

  • resistance to moisture, temperature changes, ultraviolet radiation, chemicals;
  • strength, durability;
  • large selection of colors and designs;

Flaws:

  1. Mechanical stability is not as high as that of other finishing materials.
  2. When exposed to extreme heat, the plastic begins to deteriorate.

It is better to choose panels from well-known manufacturers. Poor quality products may emit harmful substances during operation.

Dye

On sale you can find various painting compositions that are suitable for coating concrete walls in conditions of high humidity, but paint is considered a less popular finishing material because it does not look as attractive as its analogues and has low resistance to aggressive factors.

Recommendations

Tips for finishing your sink:

  1. If one of the surfaces of the stove opens into the washing room, the walls near it must be covered with panels of non-combustible material. You can use fire retardant impregnation for wood panels.
  2. It is better to use finishing nails to secure the lining.

The most durable materials for finishing work in rooms with high humidity are marble and granite.

You can carry out finishing work in the washing room of the bathhouse yourself

To do this, it is important to choose a good material that will be resistant to aggressive factors, and to understand how this work is performed

Lighting

Lighting is recommended to be diffused. It does not strain the eyes and encourages relaxation. The best option: a competent combination of natural and artificial lighting. There are always windows in the rest room, so they are kept open during the day so that soft sunlight can easily enter the room. At night, spotlights scattered around the perimeter, a ceiling chandelier and a couple of sconces on the walls in the area of accent zones are used. It is not recommended to choose heavy-duty or neon lamps. The former do not promote relaxation, while the latter provide cold, uncomfortable light.

Insulation

Thermal insulation of walls:

  1. Attach foil film to walls covered with wooden panels.
  2. Place 50x50 mm blocks on top of the film to form cells for the mineral wool sheets.
  3. Fix mineral wool into the free spaces.
  4. Place another layer of foil film.
  5. Stuff the sheathing.

After lathing, you can attach decorative material.

Floor insulation:

  1. Stuff subfloor bars onto the joists.
  2. Use a construction stapler to secure the vapor barrier film.
  3. Place mineral wool in empty spaces.
  4. Lay a layer of waterproofing and fasten the sheets with a stapler.

Additionally, the joints of the waterproofing film can be protected with metal tape.

Ceiling insulation:

  1. Place timber on the sides of the ceiling beams.
  2. Cover the insulation with foil film.

Seal the joints with metal tape.

Basic rules and recommendations for creating an interior

To ensure a pleasant stay, it is necessary to properly plan the space. If the size of the bathhouse is very small, then the rest room is the dressing room. Due to the compact size of the dressing room, it is worth abandoning bulky furniture. It must be practical and safe. Passages should be free, which facilitates movement and avoids injury.

The rest room should be decorated in the same style as the entire bathhouse

Cozy environment for a comfortable stay

A large bathhouse usually has several rooms, in addition to a steam room and a dressing room; there may be a room with a swimming pool, a changing room, and a shower, which provides more space for implementing various stylistic solutions.

The conditional division of the recreation room into functional zones allows you to make maximum use of the usable space without cluttering it at the same time. It is advisable that the interior of the relaxation room in the bathhouse be done in the same style, everything should be combined. Mandatory interior items are a large table, comfortable sofas or benches, cabinets for storing small items (medicinal herbs, tea, jars of oils, creams), hangers.

Most things and design elements should be of natural origin

Benefits of a home sauna

We will talk about a city apartment, because with suburban housing everything is a little simpler. On a summer cottage they usually build a bathhouse - a separate house with several compartments, one of which is occupied by a sauna or steam room.

Urban housing extremely rarely involves having your own plot of land (unless you are the owner of a cottage in the private sector), so the only place where you can place a sauna or steam room is your own apartment

As a rule, typical housing is equipped with a bathroom with a shower or bathtub. Usually this is enough to monitor your own hygiene: those who like to soak in some water choose a bath, and those who are constantly in a hurry choose a shower.

Everything seems to be fine, then why do you need a sauna? Why does almost every second Finnish apartment have a separate room with temperatures reaching 100ºC?

In fact, a sauna is a place where you can put your body, thoughts and emotions in order. The relaxation that comes after visiting the steam room can be compared to a professional massage: all muscles and organs relax.

It has been scientifically proven that regulars of steam rooms have a stronger immune system, a positive attitude, excellent physical shape and are much less likely to get sick. Even the above is enough to understand why many cannot imagine life without a “hot” holiday.

A visit to the sauna is a great occasion to meet a friend or relative whom you haven’t seen for a long time, or, on the contrary, a great place to be alone

Electricity and ventilation

A humid environment conducts current well, so the panel, distribution box and switch are mounted in the dressing room. Sockets are prohibited from being installed in the washing room. The safest place from short circuiting is the changing room.

In a wooden bathhouse, open wiring is used, which is pulled through the attic. When lighting the shower, install moisture-resistant electrical appliances. The models feature a ceramic socket, a heat-resistant lampshade and a wooden lampshade.

Humidity will become a breeding ground for mold, which destroys the finish of the shower in the bathhouse and is dangerous to human health. To reduce the level in the room, ventilation is carried out. Natural air circulation provides pressure differential and ventilation. A forced system (fan, air conditioner) pumps in oxygen, and the filters are cleaned of contaminants.

Do-it-yourself shower in the bathhouse

Organizing a shower in a bathhouse is not that difficult. Depending on the complexity of the design, there are 2 types:

  • summer or seasonal shower - installed in summer cottages and in those country houses that are used only in the summer, such a shower does not have a heating element, since the water tank is located directly on the roof of the building and during the day it heats up perfectly in the sun;
  • winter or stationary - the shower is installed in a bathhouse building, here a heating tank is mandatory, since the shower is used not only for contrast dousing, but also for hygiene procedures.

In any case, a shower in a bathhouse involves organizing a water supply system and a drainage system.

Layout of accommodation

The choice of location for the shower is determined by its design and the characteristics of the bath. Several factors are taken into account:

  • a stationary shower can be placed in any area except for the steam room; in fact, the shower room should be located as close as possible to the water intake points, in this case there will be no need to pull pipes over a long distance and thus you can save on construction;
  • if the bathhouse has a concrete floor with finishing, then you can install any options: a shower stall, a do-it-yourself pallet, and so on; if the floor in the building is made of wood, then only a metal pallet is installed: the concrete base does not have sufficient support and cracks quite quickly;
  • when organizing a summer shower, if there is no heating tank, it is enough to use a “bucket-waterfall”; here you only need to provide for the installation of a tap in order to fill the bucket with water.

Important! The location for the shower in the bathhouse is chosen during planning, since during construction it is necessary to lay a sewer system and a foundation for the pallet.

Floors and water drainage

A washing room in a bathhouse with a shower should be provided and organized during the laying of the foundation. In order for the shower to function fully, it is necessary to create an inlet and outlet, and this is much easier to do at the installation stage.

  1. First of all, they dig a cesspool where the used water is disposed of. The trench must be at least 3 m deep and up to 1 m wide. It is allowed to place the pit no closer than 3–5 m to the foundation of the bathhouse.

  2. The trench is reinforced with formwork and filled with cement. You can also use ready-made reinforced concrete rings.

  3. Then choose a place for the shower.
    From this area to the drainage hole, a trench is dug at an angle of 20 degrees. A polypropylene sewer pipe is laid here - from the shower drain to the pit. Since the drains flow out by gravity, it is highly undesirable for there to be turns or connections in this area: this increases the risk of blockages. The trench is filled with concrete screed. It is imperative to ensure that the slope of 20 degrees is maintained. Important! If the soil freezes to a depth of more than 1 m, the sewer pipe is thermally insulated with glass wool or expanded clay.
  4. In the future shower room, a metal sheet with a drain hole is installed so that the latter coincides with the end of the drain pipe. A drain is installed at its end: it prevents unpleasant odors from entering the washing room, and also does not allow the drainage system to become clogged. The sheet should lie with a slope. All joints are sealed with sealants, reinforced to strengthen the structure and filled with concrete. This is how you get a concrete shower tray. You can install it ready-made.

  5. The floor in the shower is tiled. This material perfectly withstands the test of water and steam and is quite easy to install.

If a shower is organized after the construction of the bathhouse, the floors in the future shower room will have to be dismantled. If the floor is wooden, then it is worth installing a ready-made pallet.

Engineering Communication

The necessary communications in the bathhouse that ensure the functioning of the shower include not only water drainage, but also supply. This is a little more difficult to do.

There are 2 main options for supplying the shower:

  • connection to the central water supply - if there is such a possibility, then the water supply is organized by laying an additional branch from the main pipe; a shower requires both cold water for mixing and water for heating;
  • supply from a well or lake - a pump is placed in the well, a water pipeline is laid from the well to the shower in the bathhouse, and the wiring is done here.

Heating is also possible in two ways. You can install a heating tank in the shower room. If the heating of the bath is carried out only with the help of a stove, then the device for heating water is located on the stove itself. This option is more economical.

The actual scheme is simple: a common water pipeline is run from the pump in the well to a storage tank in the bathhouse. There are 2 pipes leading from the tank: the top one supplies hot water, passing through the heating tank, and the one located just below supplies cold water. The pipes are brought to the shower head, connected and valves are installed.

When installing the system, several rules must be followed:

  • pipes with hot water should always be located above the drains with cold water, otherwise the heated air rises up to the cold pipes, cools down and provides condensation on the water supply itself and on the walls of the bathhouse;
  • all cables are placed at least 10 cm above the water supply;
  • if hidden communications are installed under the shower finishing, then the water pipes are insulated, this is done in order to prevent condensation from settling.

Important! For good pressure, sometimes an additional pump is needed.

Methods for heating water for showers

It is preferable to have not only cold, but also hot water in the shower. For this purpose, a water heating tank is installed. You can use a variety of options.

  1. Instantaneous water heater - water heats up as it passes through the device. To ensure such rapid heating, the tank must have high power - from 2 to 7 kW, and, accordingly, consume a lot of electricity. At the same time, the device is compact, fireproof and highly reliable. Installation of the product is extremely simple: the tank is placed on the wall, connected to a pipe supplying water on one side, and to a watering can on the other.

  2. Cumulative. It has a much larger volume - from 10 to 200 liters. Since the water here is heated gradually, it should be collected first. The water heats up to +55– +80 degrees, so you should install a mixer in the shower. Heating takes time: 100 liters of liquid will warm up in 3 hours. Installation of the device is somewhat more difficult due to its large weight and volume. The device may only be mounted on a solid load-bearing wall.
  3. Heating stove tank - such a device is fixed directly to the chimney. While the oven is operating, it becomes very hot and this heat can be used. No additional heating costs are needed. Installing the system is more complicated: firstly, you must achieve the correct ratio of the volume of the tank relative to the volume of the chimney in the bathhouse. Secondly, water can only be supplied to the tank from above, that is, the water storage tank must be located above the installation level.

The choice is made taking into account financial capabilities and the need for the amount of hot water.

Materials for arranging a shower in a bathhouse

Construction of a bathhouse with shower and toilet requires appropriate materials and tools.

First of all, you should select pipes:

  • metal - very durable, but have considerable weight, installation will require at least a welding machine, in addition, the products are susceptible to corrosion and require constant care;

  • polyethylene - very easy to install - you can equip a shower room in a couple of hours, the products are lightweight, insensitive to corrosion, but can withstand heating only up to +60 degrees; if the tank heats the water to a higher temperature, it is worth installing more reliable drainage systems in this area;

  • polypropylene - very light, durable and easy to install, can withstand heating up to +80 degrees, especially those reinforced with aluminum foil, this is the best option for a shower.

Shut-off valves – for hot and cold water. Metal parts are used.

You will need special fittings for polypropylene pipes: couplings, adapters, angles, clamps, and so on. The quantity depends on the length of the system.

Heat exchanger for a bath - flow-through, storage or titanium type.

Shower accessories – mixer, watering can, flexible hose, valves, holder.

A storage tank is required if a storage heater is installed rather than a flow-through heater.

A soldering iron for plastic pipes or a welding machine for metal ones, as well as other tools necessary for measuring and cutting pipes, hoses, thermal insulation, and so on.

In addition, you will need materials for finishing the shower, in accordance with the chosen style of the bath.

Interesting home sauna projects and technology for creating a compact design

The easiest way to place a sauna is in the bathroom. It is allowed to use the rooms adjacent to it so that you can immediately take water procedures, cool the body, and wash off sweat. By combining the bathroom and toilet spaces, you can free up some space for installing a sauna.

Installation is also possible in other rooms:

  • kitchen;
  • balcony;
  • pantry;
  • loggia;
  • corridor between kitchen and bathroom.

Projects where the stall is installed outside the bathroom require remodeling. In this case, you need to obtain permission. The structure in the pantry or corridor should not be adjacent to the walls (minimum 20 cm). It is imperative to organize ventilation, otherwise mold will appear. Balconies and loggia are unheated rooms. To install a sauna, they will have to be insulated.

Project of a small corner sauna for installation in an apartment

In a private house, a basement, ground floor, or attic is often used to set up a steam room. It is advisable to include a sauna in the building design at the construction stage in order to avoid the need to redo anything. In the photo of the saunas in the apartment, the corner structures look very compact and organic. Straight boxes are more common because they are easier to manufacture. In large apartments with high ceilings, you can organize a swimming pool (size 2x2 m, depth from 100 cm) and separate it with a glass door.

Optimal sauna size and recommendations for its construction

The standard dimensions of a sauna in an apartment depend on the type of design chosen, but should not exceed 2x2 m. Volume - no more than 24 m³.

Optimal dimensions:

  • booths - 1.6x2 and 2x2 m;
  • infrared saunas - 0.6x0.7 m and 0.8x0.8 m (sitting only);
  • phyto-barrels – 0.78x1.7 m.

If a person’s height exceeds 170 cm, he will not be able to use the phyto-barrel.

Installation dimensions of various booth options with wall sizes from 1 to 2.19 m

How to make a sauna in an apartment yourself:

  • Create a frame from metal profiles or wooden beams (elements must be smooth, planed and dried, antiseptic and fire protection treatment is required).
  • Insulate the frame with mineral wool or cork (agglomerate). Expanded polystyrene cannot be used. You can take foil-foamed polyethylene foam, but provided that the material can withstand high temperatures (you need to check the data from the manufacturer).
  • Lay a layer of vapor and waterproofing. Preferably use
  • foil materials to maintain temperature inside the structure.
  • Install the internal cladding with linden or larch. You can use tiles for floors.
  • Install heating devices (infrared radiators or an electric stove with soapstone, basalt, diabase) and lamps protected from moisture.

To create a sauna effect, you can install a steam generator. Exterior finishing is selected taking into account the interior where the sauna is located.

A small steam room will be a useful acquisition for any family. Whether to make a structure with your own hands or buy it ready-made depends only on the desire and budgetary capabilities of the owner.

Design of a sauna with a swimming pool

If the dimensions of the room in the house allow, it is worth adding a swimming pool to the sauna. This will give you the opportunity to plunge into coolness after the heat of the steam room, which is good for your health. Both rooms are interconnected in interior terms, usually by flooring.

If you have decided on the area for a home sauna, you need to decide how many people the steam room should accommodate at the same time.

The inside of the sauna is made of natural wood without additional varnish treatment. For a room with a swimming pool, tiles, mosaics or stone are suitable. The palette of both rooms can be made uniform by choosing a suitable shade of wood.

For one or two people you can get by with a sauna cabin, for a family holiday you need a larger area, to receive guests you need to take care of a relaxation room, in addition to the steam room in the sauna.

Is it worth combining a sink with a steam room?

At the design stage of the entire structure of the bathhouse, you need to decide whether you want to equip a steam room combined with a sink, or a separate one. Although, in fairness, we note that such a decision may be dictated not so much by wishes as by objective necessity.

The following factors are important in this matter:

  • material capabilities of the developer;
  • availability of building materials and other components;
  • area of the building plot.

Often, a steam room combined with a sink is equipped when there is a lack of free space and funds.

In any case, even with a small building area, there will be at least two rooms in it. In the first - the dressing room - there will be a locker room, a rest room with the necessary furniture, as well as part of the stove, which will be heated from here. The second room is the washing-steam room itself. A heater is laid out in it, which provides heat, beds are installed, as well as a place for bath accessories - brooms, basins with cold water. Hot water is heated on a stove in a large container.

Despite the apparent inconvenience, a number of positive aspects can be found in this design:

  • from an economic point of view, it is cheaper and also requires less fuel for heating;
  • The layout of such a steam room is simple and laconic - the stove goes into the steam room with a heating part with a heater, so you can heat water directly on it.

At the same time, one cannot ignore the negative aspects:

  • the small dimensions of the room do not allow several people to wash at the same time;
  • after each visit to the steam room by a separate group of people, the steam room needs to be ventilated and the stove heated;
  • This type of washing is not suitable for people with poor health.

In order to somehow compensate for these shortcomings, you can think of a competent layout, that is, place the washing area slightly lower than the steam room area, so that washing is not so hot.

Thus, if you have a small area for a bathhouse - no more than 16 m2, it is better to make a steam room combined with a sink, since if separated, it will not be comfortable to be in very cramped rooms.

Finishing of a separate steam room and wash room

Accessories and lighting

Bathroom accessories are also important. With their help, you can place bright accents and interestingly diversify the interior. At the same time, the design of the steam room itself is often very laconic. Since this room should be as convenient as possible for practical purposes, it should not be overloaded with details. However, you can choose interesting and useful wooden products: buckets, buckets, ladles, headrests and hangers. You may also need brooms, aromatic oils and a thermometer to monitor the temperature in the room.

The dressing room can be decorated as you wish. Paintings, a small rug, a miniature table, a clock and coat hooks can look organic there. All these small details will make even the simplest bathhouse interior stylish and unique.

The break room usually has windows, so you will need curtains or blinds. Wooden options made from bamboo are very popular. It is also worth choosing kitchen utensils of your choice; these can be ceramic or wooden utensils. The walls can be decorated with paintings, tapestries, animal skins or stuffed animals. Ottomans and cabinets made of genuine leather can also look good.

If you are setting up a shower room, you can purchase a stylish rug, a soap dish, drawers for storing cosmetics and a shower curtain. For a small shower, it is better to use a minimum number of accessories. If you have a spacious room, you can arrange decorative vases with dried flowers, hang catchy towel hooks, and decorate the walls or door with stained glass.

As for lighting, for a bathhouse they usually choose lamps built into the ceiling, which will be as inconspicuous as possible. Also, sometimes additional lamps are hung on the walls. Such lighting options are typical for a waiting room, steam room and shower room. Flashy chandeliers are practically not used; they may only be appropriate in a recreation room decorated in a modern style.

Furniture and other equipment for washing

The standard set of equipment for a washing room includes benches, a barrel of cold water, a shower stall, a sink (not always present), a mirror, hooks for clothes and a couple of shelves for storing towels, washcloths and detergents. Also in this room there is usually a tub or bucket for water and a special rug that absorbs excess moisture. To make a wash bench with your own hands, you will need wood with low thermal conductivity (linden is optimal) and a minimum set of tools: a hand saw, self-tapping screws, a screwdriver or a screwdriver.

Unlike the steam room, the washing room uses benches of a primitive design without backs. The width of the seat for one person should be 0.9-1 m. If you plan to accommodate a company, then 0.6 m is added for each new visitor to the washroom, and the middle is strengthened with additional legs.
